Favorite smash brothers game

Now that Brawl's been out for awhile, which is your favorite game in the series?

I liked SSB64 and SSBM equally.

For me, one of the best advantages of Melee & Brawl over the original is the ability to separate red & green shells.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

^ Brawl doesn't have Red shells.

Each game has it's goods, each has it's cons. I think they all even each other out.

Brawl, due to it being the only one that I've played for more than 2 minutes.

Exactly, Brawl separated them out of the game completely after realizing that no one likes them.

I hate to say I can't pick one over the others, due to that being "the easy answer", but I really, legitimately can't.

Melee and Brawl. I haven't played 64 enough to love it that much.

Ive only played the first two.all of them. Of those I loved Melee and felt kinda odd playing 64.

I played 64 first and loved it but after playing Melee and going back it was a kinda meh experience... If that much. :/

Mostly it was the controls/controller I think. The GC controller is SOO much better than the n64...and alot of other game controllers for that matter (IMO).

I like Brawl alot, but I'm not sure exactly. I don't really enjoy it much more than I do/did Melee. I like them both essentially equally though. Shifts, but yeah I'll just say I like them both. meh. :/ *shrug*

So Melee and Brawl I guess. ^_^

SSB64 was awesome when I was a kid, but I can only enjoy the nostalgia briefly nowadays.

Melee was incredibly fun, and I feel it was more competitive than Brawl. Brawl is by far the best party game, but Melee (albeit still a Party Game) is more of a Fighting game, which I can appreciate.

LP64 version was the best, for a number of reasons. However the specific reasons for me included:

The whole smash brothers concept was new and fresh.

The impacts and explosions were awesome in the first one. Compare Link's bombs in the first game to the later ones. Same goes for bob ombs and virtually every other explosive in the game, especially The Paunch.

Speaking of the paunch, it rocked in this game and sucked in the newer ones. While this was perhaps necessary due to CF being OP, it still sucked to see the pitiful paunches in melee and brawl.

I guess it can be summed up by saying the first game had a feel to it that the sequels never nailed. Everything was crunchy and satisfying, with major oomph behind it. Melee and Brawl just felt weaker (though I love both those titles as well).

The newer ones feel so similar that I give Brawl the nod, due to more content and the lack of the effing, effing red shell.

64. It's the definitive experience for me, being the one I played first and most.

Things added to Melee I wish 64 had:
Air/Spot dodging. Whenever I play 64 I always to air or spot dodge at least once. In fact, in our newest "Glux v Marchie" we BOTH tried to air dodge.

Ledge grabbing: In 64, the rule is "If you're not FACING the edge, you don't GRAB the edge." This. Sucks.

But before Melee existed, these things were never heard of. You can't miss what you never had.

The first game had a more cartoon-y feel to it, unlike the latter two games, what's violence is somewhat more realistic.

^Well, the visual design is more realistic. The violence is still every bit as cartoony.

Interesting. Didn't expect to see Brawl favored that much. I'd have figured melee would be the clear favorite.
