Let's shut up about Melee and Brawl for a second and take some time to talk about the installment that started it all. A couple days ago, with my Wii still in disrepair, I was rummaging through my room and found my old SSB cartridge. So I thought "What the hell, let's see how well this thing aged." I broke out the old N64, cleaned the dust off, and popped that sucker in. ...Then I took it out again, blew on it and popped it in again. The N64 logo greeted me followed by the HAL logo. Then I saw Master Hand drop a Link doll on the table and I was suddenly slapped across the face with a harmful dose of nostalgia. I played a couple battles until I realized how stiff the control stick was on the controller due to all the crap that built up in it over the years. Disgusted, I put the game away and decided to play it on the Virtual Console. Spending time beating 1P Mode with all 12 characters, I can honestly say this game is still fun. Remember when Meteor attacks had no delay? Remember when your shield didn't spend itself so goddamn quickly? Remember when Luigi's Super Jump Punch went at an angle? Remember when you didn't have to worry much about sweetspots when connecting attacks? Remember when the audience actually sounded excited? Remember when explosives had actual punch in them? Remember boarding the platforms? Remember that stupid tornado on Hyrule Castle? Remember when you could see characters' skeletons when you electrocuted them? Remember those awesome end screens when you beat 1P mode with each character? I do. |

Also, C. Falcon never seemed to be able to say the 'Falcon' in 'Falcon Punch' right. In Melee and Brawl, it sounds like he says 'Falco Punch', but in SSB, it sounds like he's saying 'Falcom Punch'. Just thought I'd share that. |

Last year, I got it for the VC. It's still fun, even if it's a bit unbalanced. If anyone's interested, maybe we could organize a SSB game online using an emulator. Though I don't look forward to playing an N64 game with a keyboard. |

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!" |

Most of Jigglypuff's A moves were the same as Kirby's, and Mario and Luigi were near indentical. I still didn't care. This game had the major fun factor, while still had tons of fun techs that never detracted from the gameplay. Sure, it was flawed, and had little balance, but it was lots of fun. Melee went way too advanced in some ways, but was still a great game. Brawl was way too damn casual, getting rid of the Z/L-Stance, something from the original! But anyway, I usually mained Mario, although I do play a mean Falcon and Luigi. I loved every single character, and despite the crappy balance(throws!), it was really difficult for me not to enjoy it. Especially with a GameShark Pro. :3 |

Honestly, I'd never want to go back to the original now. It has its charms, but compared to the future games, it has very little outside of the different styles. Still, I supposed that I liked the transitions to the Results Screen the best out of the three. That Paper Airplane transition was boss. | |

I absolutely love Smash 64, and we definitely break it out every once in a while for some excellent nostalgia. Such a great game, and still totally relevant today. |

I'm talking about the many Advanced Techs add in Melee. @Maximum Spider: Brawl seems to be perfect for you. Have fun with your quantity. I'd rather, you know, play the game to have fun, but that's just me. |
