MARIO Source games: Donkey Kong and Mario series First appearance: Donkey Kong (1981) STATS: Weight class - Middle Falling class - Floaty Running speed - Medium-slow Jump height - Medium-low (!) Capt class - Jack SPECIALS (using N64/Cube button commands): B - Fireball (source: Super Mario Bros.) Side B - Cape (source: Super Mario World) Up B - Super Jump Punch (source: Super Mario Bros.) Down B [SSB64/Melee] - Mario Tornado (based on: cape-spin in Super Mario World) Down B [Brawl] - FLUDD (source: Super Mario Sunshine) Final Smash - Mario Finale (based on: Ultra Flame power in Super Mario RPG) HOME COURSES: SSB64 - Peach's Castle Melee - Rainbow Cruise Brawl - Delfino Plaza TAUNTS: Up - Super Mushroom power up Side - Hat's off Down - Lost a life SPECIAL TRAITS/TRIVIA: --Mario is used as the baseline for almost all Smash statistics, so he intentionally has no special traits. --In addition to his Special moves, lots of Mario's A-button attacks are based on his B-button attacks from Super Mario 64 (A combo, Dash attack, Down smash, N-Air, Weapon Dash attack). His jumping animation is also based on Super Mario 64 (the backwards 2nd jump replicates the somersaults of the triple jump). The D-Air drill kick used until Brawl may've been based on the spin jump from Mario World. Who here is a Mario player? With all my clock time as Luigi, I can handle the red plumber, but he always feels a bit off to me, especially with his jumping being so low. I also am not fond of the Tornado being downgraded to an air attack, especially since it's so much harder to time that way. I'm also not a fan of the water-push attacks; I just feel like my time could be better spent just getting the kill directly. And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!" I don't really have a lot of competition in games, here, and I can't be effed playing locals online (either I suck because of lag or they suck because, well, they're usually bad at it). Dr. Mario's always been my preference if I had to use Mario, although I should mention that I hate the FLUDD thing they gave him (in Brawl?). They really nerfed a lot of useful stuff in Brawl, though, and that's not even mentioning the glitches that so many "pro" players BAW about all the time. Although I tend to think you can't be too good at a game if you have to exploit a flaw in it to win. |

He's all right, though. Like him a sight better in 'Brawl' and 'Melee' than I did in the original; his deflect-o-cape move makes for a fantastic 'screw you, bucko' on those rare occasions when I manage to use it effectively. Although ditching his tornado spin for stupid FLUDD didn't sit right with me... |

Again, they didn't eliminate the Tornado, but they did reassign it so that it became useless. And yeah, FLUDD is pointless. So is Water Gun. And Kyogre. And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!" | |

Personally, they need to remove the FLUDD Attack in the next game. It was a good experiment, but no one really used it. ![]() |

I always start off playing as him when I play multiplayer. Though I had forgotten that the FLUDD move existed, I use it so little. |

I generally like him in all 3, although he feels watered down in Brawl. I don't much use him in Melee and Brawl, though. I used Dr. Mario more. But I like the heavyset instead. ![]() |

I honestly try to find situations where FLUDD would be practical, as Mario is one of my main fighters. I found that items go flying when you spray them. Still haven't found a way to utilize such, though. |

It pushes the opponent back, but doesn't damage them whatsoever, so they don't get a secondary recovery. Which is too slow to work well. So it pretty much is a meh move at best. |
