Character of the Month #2: HiiIIIIIiii!!!

KIRBY

Source games: Kirby series
First appearance: Kirby's Dream Land (1992)

STATS:
Weight class - Very Light
Falling class - Floaty
Running speed - Slow
Jump height - Low (but compensated w/ flight)
Capt class - Bird

SPECIALS:
B - Swallow/Copy (source: Kirby's Dream Land/Kirby's Adventure)
Side B - Hammer (source: Kirby Super Star)
Up B - Final Cutter (source: Kirby Super Star)
Down B - Stone (source: Kirby's Adventure)
Final Smash - Chef Kirby (source: Kirby Super Star)

HOME COURSES:
SSB64 - Dream Land
Melee - Green Greens
Brawl - Halberd

TAUNTS: (All taunts will discard Copied powers.)
Up - Victory Dance
Side - Pirouette
Down - HIIIIIII!!!

SPECIAL TRAITS/TRIVIA:
--Kirby's dash attack has been different in every SSB game. In 64, it was a running tackle. In Melee, a flame dash. In Brawl, a capoeira kick.
--Several of Kirby's A attacks are also taken from home-series copy powers: The A combo flurry punches, aerial spin, side Smash, & Melee/Brawl dash attacks spring to mind.
--Since Final Cutter terminates on ground impact or death, Kirby did not have a paralysis animation in SSB64, & when he finally gained one in Melee, it was only used after air-dodging or being hit with a Screw Attack.

My brother mains Kirby, & is quite effective with him. I always have fun with the marshmallow, but he's not one of my best.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Flying over people and smashing them with Down-B is great.

I use Kirby fairly regularly, if just because Final Cutter is boss.

I always liked using him, but he's not the most effective in my hands.

He's very adorable though.

I've actually gotten a lot better with Kirby as of late. I enjoy doing his Forward Air triple kick to shuffle people all the way off the stage and off the screen without giving them a chance to recover. I'm better at this with Jigglypuff, but Kirby does it fairly well.

I don't use Kirby all that much (Donkey Kong wins my vote of "Favorite Character No One Else Really Uses"), but I suppose he does have his uses.

Kirby is always a good backup for Brawl, I used him more in Melee though.

That's kinda funny, because Kirby was at his weakest in Melee; most of his moves had been de-prioritized, & his attack power was way lower than in 64.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

It's true. Kirby went from broken to terrible to decent.

^However, I totally loved the flame dash, & I was pissed that they changed it.

I've heard a few other people say that, but it always surprises me because I absolutely hated that move. I like his Brawl dash attack much better.

I loved his Melee moveset in general, but how it actually worked... yeah.

Fun characters to play as. I can't wait for the changes in SSB4.

Fun fact everyone else is most likely to know already:

Kirby would've been accompanied by King Dedede and Meta Knight for the original Super Smash Bros. if it weren't for the size limitations, time restraints, and the fact Sakurai was such a humble chap and didn't wish to whore out his own characters in his crossover.

^^^It was high-priority & low-postlag, did fire-stun, & ran off of platforms as an escape tactic. Loved it.

^At least not in the first one. He had no trouble making them steal the spotlight in Subspace Emissary.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

I actually felt that it was easy to dodge and had a ridiculous amount of postlag. /shrug
