Character of the Month #3: ...

LINK

Source games: The Legend of Zelda series
First appearance: The Legend of Zelda (1987)

STATS:
Weight class - Medium-Heavy
Falling class - Fast
Running speed - Slow
Jump height - Medium-Low
Capt class - Swordsman, Gunner

SPECIALS:
B - Bow (source: Legend of Zelda)
Side B - Boomerang/Gale Boomerang (source: Legend of Zelda/Twilight Princess)
Up B - Spin Attack (source: Link to the Past)
Down B - Bomb (source: Legend of Zelda)
Final Smash - Triforce Slash (source: Brawl)

HOME COURSES:
SSB64 - Hyrule Castle
Melee - Great Bay
Brawl - Bridge of Eldin

TAUNTS:
Up - Victory swordplay
Side - Crane pose
Down - Fairy summon
Melee only - Hair flip

SPECIAL TRAITS/TRIVIA:
--In SSB64, the Boomerang was Link's B move.
--Several of Link's A attacks are also taken from home-series swordplay, particularly his Z-targeting moves from 'Ocarina of Time' & the specialized sword moves from 'Adventure of Link.'
--Link's Hookshot grab can also serve as a tether recovery, or as a tease attack in the air.

Back in the N64 days, I was actually pretty darn good with Link, & he was one of my favorite secondaries. Contrast that with Brawl, where I almost never use him at all. Oddly enough, it's almost like the more useful Link became in general*, the less useful he became to me.

*With the exception of the Boomerang, which was total hax in N64 & got way nerfed in Melee.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Never really cared for Link. Aside from bomb-spamming, of course, but that practically goes without saying.

I especially like Link in Brawl. They seemed to perfect his playstyle in that game.

Personally Link is a pretty well rounded character, in that his B attacks have different styles to them and he has alot of options in close range.

I like him.

His aerial Down+A is OP. Even moreso for Young/Toon Link.

The Down Thrust is the most useful Link attack in 4 games: SSB, SSBM, SSBB, and Zelda II.

I always loved playing as him in the first game. But then in Melee and Brawl, his other versions just... felt so much better. And literally were. I love his playstyle, but I wish he was overall better. It's perfected, but everybody else just does better than him save Ganondorf and maybe Zelda.

But meh. I thought he was perfected in Melee.

I use Link, but not a lot.

Young Link wasn't really much for me, but then Toon Link came around and I stuck with him immediately after I realized I was good with him.
