Item of the Month #4: Wiggle 3 times for "Yes".

POKČ BALL

Source: Pokémon
Featured in: All 3 games
Type: Throwing
Special effect: Releases a Pokémon to fight on the user's behalf.

Trivia:
--In Melee & Brawl, balls can be caught & repurposed to serve the catcher.
--Just as in the source games, Explosion will hurt the user. However, one can pick up & throw Electrode in the moment before it goes boom.
--Goldeen doesn't freaking learn Splash. I'm just sayin' is all.
--Hitmonlee incorrectly identifies himself as "Primeape." Smooth one, HAL.
--Ditto is accessible via Action Replay codes in Melee, where he was intended to use Transform & fight alongside the user. That would've been crazy complex for the Cube to process, so instead it just sits there hurting anything that touches it.

Pokémon (attack, games):
--Articuno (Blizzard, Melee)
--Beedrill (swarm, N64)
--Bellossom (Sleep Powder, Melee
--Blastoise (Hydro Pump, N64/Melee)
--Bonsly (throwable Flail, Brawl)
--Celebi (bonus, Melee/Brawl)
--Chansey (Softboiled, N64/Melee)
--Charizard (Flamethrower, N64/Melee)
--Chikorita (Razor Leaf, Melee/Brawl)
--Clefairy (Metronome*, N64/Melee)
--Cyndaquil (Flamethrower, Melee)
--Deoxys (Hyper Beam, Brawl)
--Electrode (Explosion, Melee/Brawl
--Entei (Fire Spin, Melee/Brawl)
--Gardevoir (Reflect, Brawl)
--Goldeen (Splash, N64/Melee/Brawl)
--Groudon (Overheat, Brawl)
--Gulpin (Swallow, Brawl)
--Hitmonlee (Hi Jump Kick, N64)
--Ho-oh (Sacred Fire, Melee/Brawl)
--Jirachi (Wish, Brawl)
--Koffing (Poison Gas, N64)
--Kyogre (Hydro Pump, Brawl)
--Latios/Latias (Steel Wing, Brawl)
--Lugia (Aeroblast, Melee/Brawl)
--Manaphy (Heart Swap, Brawl)
--Marill (Doubleslap, Melee)
--Meowth (Pay Day, N64/Brawl)
--Metagross (Hammer Arm, Brawl)
--Mew (bonus, N64/Melee/Brawl)
--Moltres (Sky Attack, Melee/Brawl)
--Munchlax (Swallow, Brawl)
--Onix (Rock Slide, N64)
--Piplup (Surf, Brawl)
--Porygon2 (Tackle, Melee)
--Raikou (Thunder, Melee)
--Scizor (Metal Claw, Melee)
--Snorlax (Body Slam, N64/Melee/Brawl)
--Starmie (Swift, N64)
--Staryu (Swift, Melee/Brawl)
--Suicune (Icy Wind, Melee; Aurora Beam, Brawl)
--Togepi (Metronome*, Melee/Brawl)
--Torchic (Ember, Brawl)
--Unown (swarm, Melee)
--Venusaur (Earthquake, Melee)
--Weavile (False Swipe, Brawl)
--Weezing (Poison Gas, Melee)
--Wobbuffet (Counter, Melee/Brawl)
--Zapdos (Thunderbolt, Melee)

*Clefairy's Metronome brings out damaging moves: In SSB64, it would mimic the other Pokés, but in Melee, it would choose between Gust, Fire Spin, Waterfall, or Self-destruct. Togepi's Metronome brings out status moves: Leech Seed, Powder Snow, Sleep Powder, "Earthquake", Night Shade, or Smokescreen.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Aside from the legendaries, Beedrill, Chikorita, Gulpin, Hitmonlee, Meowth, Metagross, Onix, Scizor, Snorlax, and Venusaur were probably the most useful. Bonsly was helpful occasionally.

As long as you landed the ball on a low part of the stage, the Beedrill swarm was nearly impossible to avoid.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Different Pokemon, same attack.

Whenever I unleashed a Beedrill in the original, I'd be like: :)

And whenever I unleashed an Unown in Melee, I'd be like: :/

And whenever I unleashed Latias/Latios in Brawl, I'd be like: :D

I always liked hitting people into my Scythers and Hitmonlees. Their reactions are always great. It's usually something like "WAIT...WHAT...YOU CAN'T DO THAT"

I've probably gotten Manaphy.

the Poké Ball is one of my favourite items due to the sheer randomosity of it!

^After being thrown, Poké balls shake 3 times before locking in a captured Pokémon, as the wild Pokémon struggles to break out.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

I've gotten it a few times. It's hilarious when it pops up because all of a sudden, I'm beating up myself as my opponent. HOW WACKY.

But the length of the effect (around 30 or so seconds) doesn't justify its rarity. If I could hack the game so it appears a LOT more often, I would.

My favourite was Snorlax.

Him coming down and squashing all the players was satisfying.

Hitmonlee is the man. He just pops out of the pokeball and is all like DEDEDEDEDE and pwns any miserable soul within range.

I wish they would bring him back in the newer games.
