Animal Collective

If you fail to grasp why I posted this thread... you just kind of fail in general.

I tried to figure out if Fireworks or Who Could Win a Rabbit was the best song ever.

But I couldn't. They're both the best song ever.

Choosing the best Animal Collective song is like choosing which of my children I want to drown.

I want to choose them all.

*rimshot!*

Animal Collective has broken new ground with me. Their music is so good that it makes me want to quit making music because I know I will never make music as good as theirs.

My new goal in life is to form an Animal Collective cover band. If you can't beat them, imitate them. Right?

So, totally serious here, I just gave them a listen. I don't understand what anyone sees in their stuff. It was really rather uncomfortable for me to listen to. What, uh, what exactly is it that makes you like music like that?

Some of their stuff is listenable to me, but its very obvious IMO and that's a big put-off.

Animal Collective for me was an aquired taste. The first album I heard was Strawberry Jam and I was like "WHAT THE **** IS THIS **** THIS IS BAD" and then I kinda kept listening a lot and I started to really dig it. MPP's more accessible-ness helped too.

Also I get Animal Collective dislike, but I've honestly never come across somebody who's said that Panda Bear's solo stuff is bad. Not one person.

It's about structure & layers, people.

Yeah, I get that. I don't like the execution of principle, and I think that principle was really obvious to begin with. Every kind of music I listen to is about structure and layers, and actually still finds something to hold it together.

But there's plenty holding Animal Collective's songs together. I like how they gradually come together, how they keep adding more and subtracting old ****, how they turn random cacophony into a musical instrument and make it ****ing WORK. Seriously, PEACEBONE mother****ers. And most of all, I love the beautiful operatic excess.
