A buddy of mine did that when we were in 8th grade for pretty much the exact same reason, although we didn't go to school in the summer of course. It was the logical climax to my class's 4-year struggle to get the shorts rule fixed, one of the few things the boys & girls of the class agreed on. It worked, too; the next year (right after my class left, naturally) the rule was finally changed.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"
