To tell the truth, I usually only correct people in real life. I used to **** newbs in the face for bad grammar, but that was a tad unnecessary. However, I do believe reproof is needed in some cases. I do, however, correct shoddy reading and mispronunciation. Personal conviction.

Just like it is a personal conviction of mine to start a conversation with "Hello (insert name here)... I want to play a game. The rules are simple..." and go from there.
