Arrow Wet Blanket

Well, the only content in WoT is people talking to each other about small talk and whatever, without sticking to the thread topic. The key idea is that the thread topic is inane; it requires 19 posts of arbitrary filler for each 'point'. Hell, I don't even think people are keeping score any more. Really, the only point of the thread now is so that people can talk to each other in a persistent chatroom context. If the post rate gets high enough, it'd be more suited for a IRC channel or something.

Now, chatroom style threads aren't necessarily a bad thing; we've had threads like that in the past (TPAM, Late Night Club, Jagger's Bar and Grille, Hyrule Inn, etc.), it's just that idea of WoT as a 'game' is pretty hollow.

Yeah, it is mundane. I can't really argue there. But it's not true that it's all 'small talk.'

Score IS being kept, actually.
Why doesn't VGF have an IRC channel? Not a bad idea.

So how is WoT worse than those? You criticize WoT for being 'a weak attempt to turn a BBS into a chatroom' but here you say that isn't a bad thing. 'As a 'game'' TPAM is also hollow... actually, how does it even count as a game...?
I'd probably cease to post in WoT as much if one of those 'lounge' threads was active, but there really aren't any now. Feel free to start one, but It may not be as successful as WoT.

It's something people have historically been disproportionately defensive about.

Only because it's something people have been disproportionately offensive about.

^So do you mean that there's way too much defensiveness & way too little offensiveness or vice versa? Because they can't both be too much or too little; that wouldn't be disproportionate.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Not disproportionate to each other, disproportionate to the amount of drama a topic like this should generate.

Which is to say inappropriate amounts of offense and defense.

No, it's something that too many people bitch about. Look at MM, he bitched about it because he knew nothing about it, he just assumed that people were in there to increase post counts. He later looked at them, saw how fun they were, and joined in.

Give the damn thing a chance, not asking you to join it, I'm just asking you all to stop bitching about it, it's not the end of the world, and it's not the end of VGF.

EDIT: And this post is not solely aimed at Wyborn, it's for anyone else who just decides to bitch about WoT.

I'm not bitching about it, I'm just saying that people get really defensive about it. And they do! The best way to deal with people hounding your ass about that sort of thing is just to ignore them.

I'll admit, I only get defensive about it when it's an extreme case like MM was. Some people like it, some don't. Oh well, life goes on.
