But, at the same time, I can name numerous GREAT writers for multiple fandoms... it's unfortunate that crap simply overwhelms their stories and pushes them to later pages.

If you want GOOD fanfiction, avoid FF.net, and go to places like LiveJournal.

There are places where people write original stories, except that it is usually exactly like what everyone else has mentioned with this "Fanfiction".
