Yeah, I get it, you don't like whatever game you're playing. You're not funny and you've got a ****ty mic, and you're also a crappy actor - it all shows. Maybe you guys think you can all be as awesome as Seanbaby. Unfortunately, you lack tact and well-thought-out metaphors designed for maximum hilarity, so you're more or less just some guy who sucks at the game he's playing who complains a lot. Nobody likes a whiner, and lemme tell you man, if you're playing a Color Dreams game? It's your own damn fault. Get a real hobby, get a ****ing talent, do something worthwhile.

And what's up with these guys that are playing games they like, but have to have a running monologue the whole video anyway? You don't actually have a point to make. If the game is good, we can see that by watching the video.

It's like when Penny Arcade, VGCats, Ctrl Alt Del (even though CAD sucks imo), etc. came to popularity and everybody wanted to do a webcomic even though they suck at it.

In this case they look at the AVGN, Spoony, and Yahtzee and decide that they can review games too. Like Irate Gamer. Somehow he's popular and all he really did was take the AVGN and wash all the charm away (as well as reviewing good games like Contra and Zombies ate my Neighbors).

6. Choose titles and descriptions carefully. If you're reviewing (for the sake of the argument, lets say:) Bionic Commando, you don't want a title like "D00D THIS GAME IS AWSOM!!!" and then have a description that follows, "no really get it now!". You'll want the title to state exactly what your selling, like "Merzak's Review: Bionic Commando." with a description that states some of the things people should know about the game or video.

I once listened to a Sonic Heroes review with 2 guys in it, and that must've broken every rule in there.

I for one like some commentary, depending on the video: if it's something like "My Favorite Games", it'd be nice for the creator of the video to explain what he liked about the game. Then again, I don't watch many "commentary" videos in the first place.

^^^Let's Plays are a different animal, since the entire point of them is to describe & depict a complete playthrough.

I'll tell you what I'm sick of; commentaries by kids who sound like they're asthmatic 10 years old & sincerely trying to sound more educated & worldly than they are (& completely failing at it), while simultaneously saying things like "this level was a real--well, b-word, 'cause I shouldn't say that word". YOUR MOTHER IS NOT WATCHING YOUR YOUTUBE VIDEOS. EITHER SAY THE WORD OR DON'T. IF YOU MUST LAMPSHADE YOUR LANGUAGE, BE FUNNY & BRIEF ABOUT IT. I MEAN, WHAT THE BLEEP!?

It was understandable in his early videos, as his early videos were mostly satire but it got out of hand later on when he became popular. His "review" of the Atari 5200 is pretty much "geez this console has a lot of cords how do i hook this up."

He's still had some funny moments, and sometimes gets things about games right (i really really hate Batman Forever, I pretty much agree with all of his review of that) but by now he's pretty much gotten rid of all his catchphrases and they're getting stale (there are only so many ways you can differentiate "****load of ****"). And the fact that he needs some final duel with the game at the end (vs. Michael Myers? Ok. Joker? Alright. The Cowardly Lion? the ****?) is just annoying. His funnier videos lately have been with the much funnier Nostalgia Critic.

I still watch him though for the occasional laugh.

AVGN just needs to be more creative.

That said, fighting with the Nostalgia Critic isn't going to fix that overnight.

I prefer videos where the interviewer is, like Nostalgia critic, sort of playing a game where they point something out, give the viewer a moment to go "WTF?" or "That sucks!" and then say something silly related to that which makes it absolutely hilarious.

I like the Nostalgia Critic,however the comp I use is rather out of date and even though I have the best version of Flash 9 it can handle i can't watch the Nostalgia Critic because the audio and vido don't sink up and the video pauses every few second to buffer, however it can handle Yahtzee's videos just fine.

Speaking of him, I rather like Yahtzee because while I'm sure he's far from a good critic I rind his drive by lampooning because his so completly dedicated to taking the **** out of verything.

Well, to be fair, James said that he does over-exaggerate on some points, which I usually notice on where he comments on landing a jump. Those old platforming games just weren't forgiving.

However, the gimmicks he pulls are really lame at times. The Odyssey review? He said he had Matt Matei helping, why not just put him in the video? He did it with Kyle and that was pretty neat. Floating killer Jaguar logo? WTF? The Halloween episodes? Is this a game review or a low-budget movie?

To be fair, AVGN is more of a Movie Director then a Gamer, so it would make sense for him to include effects and a convolted Storyline to his videos.

Still, I find That Guy with the Glasses better. Mostly because he's funnier. :/
