OpenOffice

It seems to have a 50% chance of crashing every time I try to open a file, save or close out of the program. I'd be better off using Notepad.

I haven't used it in two years (real Office is better), but I never had any problems with it then even though I was using it on a very outdated computer.

I've never had any problems at all with Open Office. I think it's just you, Val. You're like Dr. Grant from Jurassic Park. Or something.

Yeah, I'm going to say you should reinstall it. OO works fantastic on my computer. I love it to pieces.

I'm curious how Microsoft Office works any "better", ian. Writer has an equivalent to Word in every single thing I've ever needed. And it's freeeeeeeee.

Guess what I have on my laptop?

It's better than basic Wordpad.

Writer and Word might be equal, but OO doesn't have OneNote (which I use a ton) and I had some issues with its Excel equivalent. (to be fair, they might have fixed those by now, but its refusal to not cram all the bars on a graph in the far right corner was extremely annoying at the time)

I got Office free with my computer (bonus for the first one being defective), so price wasn't something I was comparing.

I've been ignoring Java wanting to be updated for years (and OO still works great).

I'd never heard of OneNote until now, which shows how important it is to me. Calc/Excel has always done exactly what I needed it, so I haven't found any issue there, either. To be fair, my use of it is fairly minimal, so there might be underlying concerns that I never encountered.

Price is definitely a deciding factor for any software, regardless of what you paid for it. Would you pay a couple of hundred for something, when you can get a just-as-good free version from elsewhere? It depends on how well the program works and what you need it for. GIMP vs. Photoshop? I'll gladly pay several hundred dollars for PS, for the quality. MSO vs. OO, though, there just isn't a big enough difference in functionality. And trust me, I had been using MSO for many, many years before I made the switch.

Eh, my only beef with OO is that I need to take documents between home and school, and the school is not to be having teh freewarez. But even then I found an easy file converter online with NO VIRAL THINGS.

So... no beefs. Except that sometimes it tries to replace words I'm typing with other less appropriate words too dang much.

Yeah, OpenOffice has never given me a single problem, and I use Writer a ****ton. I agree with Mushi's beefs, but they're never too much of a problem for me to solve within a second's time.

I think OO just has a problem with this computer.

Then again, everything has a problem with this computer.
