FuncoLand - Fun experience buying games, nice staff, sold nice old stuff. Destroyed, replaced with horrid Gamestops. Original Nintendoland - The first Mario site I saw (yes, even before SMBHQ), first thing with battles, brought me to VGF. Destroyed, replaced with site that's probably fun for today's people but doesn't connect with me at all. They also took down the deathmatches and haven't put them back or made new ones. Old SMBHQ - Pre-Sean Kelly, Jay era. Responsive staff, many people to talk to, neat system where each page had its own image, constant mention of pages whenever they updated. Destroyed, replaced with abortive attempt to take what was a fan site and turn it into an encyclopedia, despite TMK beating it to the punch millions of years ago. Old NC - Again, when Jay was active. New stuff came out fairly often and drew on references that were new to me at the time, making it both funny and sort of educational pop-culture wise. Not particularly destroyed... just never truly updated. I do not consider myself capable of following it up solely because my material isn't as diverse or the same type. FoxBox/Fox Saturday Morning Cartoons - Originally a quasi-diverse group of shows that at times seemed to be just kid-friendly versions of the more complex fare played for adults. Quite intriguing. Replaced with 4Kids garbage which for the most part treats children like they're retarded. ABC Morning Cartoons - Source of SATAM, Power Rangers and similar. It was hit or miss, but the hits were great. Replaced with absolutely horrid Disney #$%^ which is somehow even worse than the idiocy on 4Kids TV. WB - Source of Yu-gi-oh, Pokemon and similar. Sort of junk food cartoon-wise, but had some interesting ideas. The better half of 4Kids' stuff was here. Replaced with... ...more junk from 4Kids/not really a channel anymore. N64/Gamecube Era - An era many people hated from Nintendo; they went to their shiny Playstations and mostly vented hatred at Nintendo for being 'kiddy.' But Nintendo had some legitimately compelling concepts... Luigi's Mansion, the early SSB, Star fox 64, Metroid Prime. A sort of stable of first party games that represented many things. Not destroyed--merely abandoned until recently in favor of winning the console wars. Still, it's not really the same anymore... Old Sonic - Before he became a drug-tripping tall dude who spouted words, he was just the cool blue blur who moved from one stage to another, fighting evil science-fiction robots and Dr. Robotnik. But then they had to ruin it with the addition of unnecessary story, more than a handful of characters, idiotic 3D Graphics, overly pricey new consoles, stupid companions, gimmicky useless mini-games, bad voice actors, 4Kids garbage, dumbing it down to fit the audience of retardo-children 4KidsTV seems to serve these days, plot discontinuity, pandering to 'Dark and Edgy' in the cynical pursuit of sales, rushing a game, firing all the decent workers, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh IRC RPGs/SSS-like concept sites - For some reason, after a great big boom era in the 2000s, these now are fairly stale, no longer really big or really popular. It just makes me feel lonely and old to see what was once 20+ people hover at 10. Message Boards - Before VBulliten took over and ruined everything... there was UBB and other boards, where people actually bothered to hack in new features, shiny stars and other things were the norm, and new members came in more than never. People seemed to care back then... these days it's a bunch of soulless Vbulliten boards that, due to their organization, seem to discourage interaction between people and are more about all the shiny buttons. Cartridge-based Games - I always liked plugging them in and how durable they are. But it seems they're going to shrink out of existence. Regrettable, as they continue working long after CD-rom drives of older CD consoles fail from continual use... |

Still, it can't be your first time every time. The thing about cartridge games? If games were still on cartridge, game companies couldn't shove this bull about piracy down our throats. Cartridges contained integral processor technology. Disc media doesn't, and we get the weakest generational improvements from game to game imaginable. Do I resent that? Hell yeah. Ten years from now, my cartridge based systems will still run. My GCN's disc motor will burn out by then. And I still pay just as freaking much for new games as I used to on cartridge. |

There are places I remember. All my life, though some have changed. Some forever, not for better. Some have gone and some remain. All these places have their moment, with lovers and friends I still can recall. Some are dead and some are living. In my life, I've loved them all. |

Just curious. Most of these do have to do with growing up, but on a number of them there's some things which I can picture still being better if they existed now and didn't die back when. On the other hand, I can safely say the old Nintendoland is mostly nostalgia, as the new one is functionally superior. |

I was sooooo ticked. Now, I can't go into it at all because I'm "too old"... |

Seriously though, stuff changes, and it sometimes sucks. ^That happened to ours, too. Pretty common, actually. |

As a result, I haven't played 'Jumpman Junior' or 'Trailblazer' or 'Ghostbusters' in about fifteen years. That stuff's integral to my misspent youth, dood. |
