I don't understand how anyone can respect people like the Situation or Snooky or whoever else is on that show (my brother loves the Situation) when all they do is go to tanning salons and fight all the time and do nothing productive with their lives. Meanwhile, most people are struggling with work or even to find a job (and are in most cases far more productive), and don't get anywhere near the amount of respect that the cast of Jersey Shore gets. I feel like society treats us as second-class as opposed to people on Jersey Shore. -CSM (and I've only seen the show once at a friend's house and I intend to never see it again) |

You and me, and the rest of us, we're average normal people, nothing special going for us in this media-saturated society. Those guys are on the almighty television. That instantly makes them Other. Special. Something that the bored, disillusioned, ignorant masses MUST watch. It's all created. Fictional bull****. Those folks on the TV are *******s built up to be famous and important to all the normal, average *******s in the world. In short, it's up to you to not give a damn. We all know for a fact that the pretense behind TV is to sell you a product. They're selling people, "personalities". You don't have to buy into it, and you don't have to let it get you down that they are an invented celebrity. Shrug it off. They don't mean anything. They are just other people with more recognition. It's hardly "respect"; you just live your life and have confidence in yourself, and that's the only thing of significance here. |

Gender: Posts: 10,791 Thanks: 1,019 Thanked 686 Times in 467 Posts | ^Sorry, but when I read the news to find out what's going on around the world, particularly in Africa and Asia, I don't want to see a bunch of sleazebags parading across the front page being "party animals" and being able to record an album just because of their fame (even though I'm probably better at guitar than they are at singing (and I REALLY WANT TO PLAY IN A BAND AND WRITE MY OWN MUSIC), things start to become a problem. -CSM |

But the difference is, I NEVER EVER feel like I'm less because of it. I know my worth. Their marketing doesn't make me doubt myself or consider I'm not respected or valued. |

That's it. It's called drama - people typically behaving in an exaggerated fashion that typically results in absurd mistakes and damaged relationships. More importantly, the characters on that kind of show are so stupid and simple, the average ignorant viewer can predict their actions and ideas and feel that they have a dominion over it. When they feel like they understand another person's life better than that person does, it fills a need in their mind to experience companionship. Aaaand that's why regular people creep the **** out of celebrities, because they follow the lives of famous people so they register that they've got a social life. The celebrities' have no relation to the person, they know nothing about these fans, but the fans have been following the celebrities in a way that makes them feel like they're pals. It's not something to feel bad about. You should pity the people that lack self-confidence enough to be sucked into these kind of parallels of societal standard. They can't feel good about themselves unless a majority class actually generically approves of their behaviors. |

Putting it blunt for you here mate. Complaining about people born into wealthiness to do that is like pissing into a sea of piss. Society always has and always will respect those with $$$, no matter what gigantic pricks they are. But feeling sorry for yourself (and believe me, I'm in that situation right now, being jobless and struggling to find work, so I know exactly how you may feel) is no way to gain respect either, to get respect from others you must first respect yourself. | |
