Amuses me more than it bothers me. I had a friend at work tell me the other day that some show had him 'literally glued to [his] seat'---seemed like more effort to correct him than would ever be worthwhile, plus the imagery had me chuckling.

That's always bugged me (that is, when people say "literally" instead of "figuratively." Since that's actually what you meant). That's why I loved it when there was a How I Met Your Mother episode with that as its subplot.

The whole thing arose due to an episode of Conan where he interviews Rainn Wilson, commenting on Will Ferrell joining The Office, during which Rainn says something along of the lines of "...and he literally called him up and said...", which I'm fairly certain is inaccurate.

i literally do this all the time and laugh at people who get indignant over it

its like people literally don't understand slang, sarcasm, or that people sometimes use words for reasons other then their definition.
