^ that post is a hell of a ride with no context fyi
(I clicked on a notification and it took me straight to that post at the top of this page and I forgot what came before it. I was very confused.)
^This exact same thing happened to me. I couldn't decipher it.
What game should I get if I haven't played since B2/W2?
Sun and Moon are a great re-entry point.
Speaking of re-entry points. Can I just say that I cannot recommend the Adventures manga enough to people who enjoy the games? It is literally the only reason I got back into Pokémon. I love that it gives each gen's characters the light of day rather than being the Ash, Pikachu, and Team Rocket show. Like, I like the anime, but I've been over it for like 10 years. Every arc of the manga is totally fresh with a different feel and focus reflecting the differences between gens. I only bought Platinum because I loved the gen 4 arc so much I decided to play the game.
Also, the gen 7 arc just started and it's adorable.
^I've actually heavily thought about starting to read those. The characterizations all seems really rad from the little bits I have seen.
Do it. It's so good. Every protag is great in their own way and their teams are all fantastic; I'm always afraid the next gen won't live up to the previous one but they always do.
Ruby from gen 3 is a vain piece of garbage and it's incredible. Talk about changing it up after Gold, who is basically Naruto except better.
I haven't finished a game since Diamond, and I don't think I've actually technically finished it. (I beat the Elite Four, but never finished any endgame stuff. Still hunting those lake spirits... or was that before the Elite Four? Bah, I can't remember.)
I just can't finish these games anymore. I barely started R/S/E, never finished Black or SoulSilver. X and Y looked decent, but I never got them, and by the time I get around to playing Sun/Moon the hype will be gone. Hell, the hype for Sun/Moon seems to already have vanished and it's 4 days shy of 6 months old.
The wife and I just bought Sun and Moon last night. It's her first main series Pokémon game.
