An official level editor for Mario Bros.

While I'm aware this possibly arouses pessimism in everyone savvy with editing actual Mario ROMs (like myself), I am actually looking forward to this. I hope they add more elements. I mean, way more elements.

The specifics of sharing creations will make or break this game for Val.

I'd be excited for this, but Super Mario Bros. X already does what this game will do, only better.

Makes me think Nintendo sicced its dogs after SMBX's devs out of jealousy then started going "We can make a WAY better one--you watch! And it'll be official so "

This is one of the best things they've ever done. If sharing content is done correctly, I'll definitely check it out.

Also, not to get off subject, but this type of thing would be awesome for mobile markets. Take a crap, make a Mario level, upload it to Miiverse or whatever, and share saves between Wii U/mobile.

This actually looks like a lot of fun, and a good use of the tablet. Reminds me of when I played Mario Paint, and wishing I could create actual levels rather than just art.

my concern is will this basically make getting any other 2d mario for wii u irrelevant? if this is ultra good with amazing levels and sharability why would i ever get another 2d mario on wii u

^ Well, it's not like RPG Maker made people stop buying retro RPGs on their PCs. I don't think this will affect Mario games on the Wii U.

Can you use different physics as well? I always personally preferred the way SMB 3 controlled as opposed to SMB.

SMB 3's physics were the best in the series, IMO.

I don't think we'll see the end of 2D Mario games, especially because I'm sure Nintendo will think of new mechanics and stuff to warrant a new game of Ninty-designed levels.

I just read a comment where a person was wondering if Nintendo might make a new "Maker" franchise out of this. I think that's genius, especially for games that get sort of ignored; the community can kind of still have something to do. Say, an "Earthbound Maker" with all of the assets available to create you own adventure, sort of like a limited, Earthbound-specific RPG Maker.

The average person has no idea how to design a game level. I'm sure I can have fun with it, though. I would be most interested if there is a sprite editor, which is at least possibly implied by the mario paint interface elements I saw in a brief video clip about it.

I would really really really like a LttP and Super Metroid styled version of this.

This looks like it's super awesome and cool, and also something that I will probably spend 0 time or money for. Not in my wheelhouse. Sweet concept, though.

^^ LttP and Super Metroid seem like they would lend themselves well to such a program. Any Fire Emblem as well.

I do like creation tools. This does make me wish there were creation tools for other platforming franchises like Sonic and Mega Man as well.

I know it's not complete yet but based on what I've seen, there isn't a whole lot to offer here, so I'm wondering if this is gonna be just an eShop thing.

So the final event of the Nintendo World Champion Olympics 2025 or whatever was playing some levels the Treehouse crew made.

The questionable structure of these levels does not bode well. At all. Sturgeon's law will hit hard. Kaizo as far as the eye can see.
