New show on Cartoon Network. From what I hear, there's been a lot of hype. I saw it and posted what I think of imdb;

I'd never heard of "The Boondocks" until my friends were talking about it on Sunday. We watched the show, and throughout it I wasn't quite sure why my friends made such a big deal about it. I know that the McGruder has some kind of message that he's trying to convey, but I'm not sure what it is. It seems that the two boys, Huey and Riley, are constantly contradicting each other. Huey is the "white man trying to keep the brotha man down" kinda guy while Riley is the gangsta rapper wannabe stereotype. Meanwhile the grandfather seems to be straight out of the Huxtable family.
Afterward I told my friends that I didn't "get it" and one of them let me borrow "A Right to be Hostile", the treasury of comic strips from the series. I've started it and it's beginning to make a bit more sense, although I'm still not clear.
Back to the show, the treasury boasts that the strip is praised as "shocking" and has "bodacious wit", but I'm just seeing the same stereotypes I see when I accidently turn on MTV or wander into any of the thousands of black/white buddy comedy movies. So I ask you; what am I missing?

Also, it seems that everyone here is posting their political affiliation. I consider myself quite liberal, minus the god. I don't know why that matters here.

They're probably posting political affiliation because MacGruder leans so far left that he can see his right hand without turning, but you're correct; that shouldn't have anything to do with liking the comic/show or not.

I didn't even realize it had premiered yet. Truth be told, I'm not that interested. The comic is funny, but the voices they've put it just annoy me.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Excellent first show. Loved the first line.

"Attention: Jesus was black, Ronald Reagan was the Devil, and the Government is lying about 9/11."

Not sure how its going to be nearly as good as the strip, since he won't be able to take topical humor when its really fresh.

More curious on how long the show will last until people go up in arms over it.

That's just it. I don't see WHY people would go up in arms over it when they can get the same thing from "Bringing Down the House".

I'm missing something, whether it be the message he's trying to convey, or the sharp wit the show supposedly contains.

I'll check a couple more episodes before passing my judgement.

Freaking hilarious. Just some of the slapstick is great. The way rich white people are portrayed makes up half the show's comedy.

"Would you like some cheese?"
"Did you just offer me cheese?"
"Why yes I did."
"I'd love some cheese, thank you."

I nearly died.

Read the strip, especially the ones that got it kicked out of a bunch of newspapers after 9/11 (calls up TIPS, "I know who's responsible for financing al Qaeda." "Ronald Reagan....R-E-A--Hello? Hello?"). Then there's the one after strom thurmond died ("the sky has never looked bluer...").

Now all that is left is for them to get off their asses and green light a Calvin and Hobbes tv show !!!
