The 80s Cartoon Nostalgia Topc

Since a mini-discussion about 80s cartoons started in the Captain N topic, I thought I would create a new topic.

Being born in 1982, my cartoon watching years (approx 1985 - sometime in the early 1990s) were in the prime of cartoons.

I watched everything from Care Bears to Transformers to Dino Riders (remember that show?) to Ghostbusters.

So, what 80s cartoon memories do you have?

Which 'Ghostbusters'? The one based on the movies, or the bizarro one with the gorilla?

I was a cartoon nut back in the day. 'GI Joe' and 'Transformers' were my favourites; I was also quite fond of 'Thundercats', 'Brave Star', 'COPS', 'Visionaries', and 'Dungeons and Dragons' (among many, many others).

Yea I watched Thundercats, Visionaries, Transformers, Gummi Bears, Ghostbusters (I had a ghostbusters lunch box), Inspector Gadget. You name it and I've probably watched it. Good times.

I used to get up every Saturday morning at 6:30 to watch cartoons.

The Dick Tracy cartoon! That was the best ever. Also, I enjoyed TMNT (duh), Dennis the Menace (another awesome show), Alvin and the Chipmunks (just plain funny voice acting), Inspector Gadget (duh), and of course DuckTales, the SMB Super Show, Real Ghostbusters, and Thundercats.

Garfield and Friends, too. Was that 80s or 90s? I forget.

This was back when cartoons would rule. Nowadays they basically suck. Long live the '80s. -CSM

^ Garfield and Friends started in 1988, so it's technically an 80s cartoon, even though the majority of the run was in the early 90s (the cartoon lasted until 1995)

I think I good point to mark the beginning of the end of the Golden Era of cartoons was when the live-action Power Rangers became popular in 1993 (though good cartoons lasted, at least, another 3-4 years)

Ghostbusters was my absolute favourite show. I loved Egon. I still have my toys too. I also watched Jem,TMNT,Thundercats, My Pet Monster, GI Joe,Transformers, Healthcliff, COPS, Garfield, Brave Star, Care Bears, She-Ra, He-Man and Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Every cartoon that exists today sucks.

Just found out 'COPS' is out on DVD. I might just go get that. (Also just found out that it's 'BraveStarr', not 'Brave Star'. I'm so ashamed.)

I don't think it's reasonable to say all cartoons suck these days. Of course, there's no accounting for taste, but you won't hear me disparaging the various Batman serii, or that mid-nineties X-Men cartoon, or 'Sam and Max--Freelance Police', or 'Conan the Adventurer'. Or hey--'Samurai Jack'. Nostalgia's all well and good, but you couldn't pay me to watch 'Denver the Last Dinosaur' or 'Inhumanoids' over 'Samurai Jack'.

What, about every cartoon that exists today sucking? I'm old school. 80's cartoons were way better than the crap they pump out now. The only cartoons that I really ever liked post 1980's were Sailor Moon, X-Men and Batman the Animated Series. Other than that, I hate all this Digimon/Pokemon/Inuyasha/Yu-Gi-Oh/New TMNT/New Transformers crap. Meh, that's my opinion. Like I said, I'm old school.

I watched a lot of cartoons in the 80s( early 90s), and after reading this topic I even saw some I hardly remembered. My favourites were Transformers and M.A.S.K. and I also had quite a lot of toys of both. I also had many GI Joe toys, but I didn't watch the show that much.

Others include: Thundercats, TMNT, Inspector Gadget, Heathcliff (love the themesong), Dinoriders (I wanted Dinorider toys, but never got any), COPS.

There are probably more I forgot. I also watched dubbed versions of some cartoons like Ducktales.
