It's my sister's birthday...

... and I'm ! I'm the kid who hates to spend "family time". This is the first time I'm actually enjoying myself, only because I'm on the computer. But on a brighter note, RED VELVET CAKE!!!

Way to appreciate the feelings of others.

It's totally not like your sister deserves her birthday, or wants to spend time with her brother.

When I clicked this topic, I thought you were actually going to show guilt. Now I'm just sickened. Get off, go help her celebrate, and feel good about yourself. How hard is that?

I mean, after all, she did defend you last month, even though I still find that hard to believe.

Siblings are a lifelong connection to who you are and where you came from. I suggest you treat them well.

Siblings: They may seem easy to hate now, but when they're teenagers, watch out.

DZ, imagine how your sister must feel. I mean, I'm not the most social butterfly in my family, but you should at least show her you care about her enough to spend time with her on her birthday.

I just moved back into college, and I don't get to see my siblings for a while. You should cherish the time you DO get to spend with your family.

You know I've grown apart from my little sister every since I was seven or eight. I don't know what happened - we just drifted apart slowly over a period of years. I'm sill close to my brother but I barely know my sister at all anymore, it feels like. I still love her very much - she is my sister - but I'm not a part of her life and I haven't been for a long time. I miss her very much.

Treasure your siblings, man. They're not supposed to be people you grow apart from.

Well I know it's a little late, but hopefully you at least did spend time with your family. Afterall, it's only for one measly day. I'm sure dealing with your sister can be a pain in the butt as my sister pees me off sometimes. However, when you guys get past the teens things will finally settle down as you finally mature and quit those stupid petty arguments we as siblings always have. Anyhow story time and then my punchline:

---

You know what's a funny story is today my mom went to visit my aunt and uncle again today. Things were strange she explained, possibly due to my earlier vent a few months ago regarding the drill and about how my relatives tend to use us.

Anyhow, one of my uncles actually called my Aunt recently. This is amazing for those who do not know. Uncle F has pretty much ousted himself from the family for about maybe five or six years now. Well as he's talking my aunt brought up my cousin (named cousin C for this topic, who is 14 years old). My uncle goes "Oh, you had a son?"

Which reminds me, when I graduated my other uncle came down to see me and my cousin A's graduation. Well when I finally meet up with him I talk to him. He looks at me all weird, and then he goes "Oh! That was you! I thought I heard a [insert last name here] when they were calling the graduates!" My last name is a very uncommon last name so it's pretty hard to mistake my name seeing as there is no one else to compare my last name to... besides like my dad

---

So hopefully your relatives don't start to forget who's in their family. Anyhow, what I'm getting at is that eventually your family will begin to go their own ways. Hopefully not in a strange manner like mine did, but you will begin to see less and less of your family. So what's important is you stay close to your siblings and parents, and even grandparents. They are the central part of your family. They are the ones that will lend you a hand more than anyone else you know.

I'm sure your sister wasn't offended of you not being very present today, but just keep stuff like this in mind for the future as you both begin to get older.

That's EXACTLY how Cousin A is in my family. She's been into the popularity thing in middle-high school and now sororities in college. We have no grudges against each other, but we haven't kept in close touch since probably grade 7.

Yo, DZ, I don't blame you for not being enthralled with your sister's birthday. People rarely do. But I'd like to say that you should act a bit more mature about it.

I mean, I don't exactly enjoy babysitting my younger cousins, but I do it anyways when I'm needed, and I do it because it's fun for them and in the end I enjoy it too.

^yeahthat, except replace sister with brothers

I never got to see my sister much because of our age gap (20 year gap), but when I get the chance now, I spend as much time as possible because I only get to see her roughly once a year. You need to cherish your family DZ, stop being so selfish.

I don't have a problem with her, it's that my parents insist on making us spend all of this time together when both of us want to be left alone.

^ Dude, are you absolutely SURE she wants to be left alone as much as you want to be? Your parents aren't demanding you to spend time with your sister, they're ASKING you to.

"omg, my parents luv me n want 2 see me "

Quit being a selfish little brat. Seriously. You have no idea what it's like to be hours away from your sister and not getting to see her except for holidays. It hurts. It really f**king hurts. And you sit at your computer and whine about treating your sister nice for one day, for one freaking day out of the week. You act like it's such a hassle to at least be around your sister.

I...can't even go on anymore. It's been a re-heeealy bad day for me, and when I come here to escape, here you are, making excuses as to why you shouldn't love your sister.

What's wrong with you?

I agree with dylan, she's your big sister and you should treasure your time with her while you can darkzero, otherwise you'll regret it for the rest of your life because when she turns 18 there's a good chance she'll move out of the house and you'll want to see her but you'll barely see her at all, maybe on the weekends but that's it, then when she finishs college you'll only get to see her around the holidays. but the worst part is that you will miss he while she's gone and there's nothing that can cure that pain.
