Well I think the question rather is go to a better school to pursue education, or stay at his 'crappy' school to be with his friends. It is a tough choice.

If you go to this new school I think you'll find some good friends to hang out with still. You don't live far from your current friends do you? You can still visit them on weekends.

As for friends, I didn't meet my best friends until 7th/8th grade of school. I'm still friends with all of them even though I moved 3 years ago. Unfortunately, the random stuff me and my best friends have done all these years still lingers on my mind. Is that what causes me to be reluctant to make new friends, or is it just that the kids in college already found out their favorite groups and I'm not 'invited' to any of them?

You can make new friends. It also doesn't mean that you have to lose your old friends.

^Exactly. You're education should be important - if your friends are really your friends, you'll be able to stay in contact.

Unless you live under a rock, you should be able to still be in contact with your old friends.

I had a similar situation, and I went to the really good school, and it was probably the best decision I've ever made.
