It's really goddam annoying when ever single ****ing song at a school dance is rap. Nothing against those of you that like rap, but 4 hours in a row? Wtf? |

That statement is the most overused, misused, correct yet incorrect statement of this generation. There was good rap and garbage rap before 2000, the only difference was, people weren't so easily able to get into the rap business, and people's music didn't spread as much. TuPac made club songs, Biggie made club songs, not every song that came out pre-2000 was good, just as not every song post-2000 is garbage. Back in the late 90s, a MIMS album would only circulate via the NY area, as a DJ UNK album would in the south. Now? Anyone can get out there, and songs are now easily spread through the internet. Just because Soulja Boy (who is indeed a one-hit wonder, who just won't go away) and Flo-Rida dominate airwaves, doesn't mean that good rap doesn't exist. Cee-Lo is still prevalent, as are OutKast. Pastor Troy just released his 23rd album, Ludacris, Common, T-Pain and T.I. all recently released albums. Call Kanye West arrogant all you want, but he's one of the best in the business, and Lupe? Still going to be around for several more albums. B.o.B.? Asher Roth? Charles Hamilton? All new artists, all pretty damn good. Also, hip-hop doesn't always have to be lyrical with an important message, to quote Big Boi from OutKast, it's great to entertain, but if you can teach something while doing so, it goes that much further. So I don't mind all the dance songs that aren't meant to be anything but dance songs. As much as it pains me to say this, I don't mind doing the Stanky Leg on occasion (and I can't believe I admitted that), but at the same time, I prefer to listen to "Big Ole Words", or "Created A Monster", or "Two Left Feet." So in short, that statement is bull****. |
