I hate people who are too lazy to actually do work in their place of work. I hate people that think they are important to their place of work when they serve no greater purpose than you do. I also hate when people go completely out their way to take the easiest tasks that are not required of them so that they won't have to do the not-so-hard tasks that they are required to do. I hate when people complain and make up excuses as to why they can't do something they're supposed to, and leave that very thing for you to do when you come in three hours after they got there. I work in the dairy section of a grocery store, and there's always three main things we have to do almost everyday: 1)Stock items, 2) Stock Milk, 3) Breakdown Milk. In order to stock items, we must load them on a float and take them out to the floor so that we may put them on the shelf....simple enough. This guy always finds the smallest float, loads it up halfway, takes it out to the floor, walks around doing nothing for an hour, and finally finishes the float two hours later. Meanwhile, myself and the three other dairy clerks can load up and finish a float within an hour. For example, this man, who we'll call Idiot, gets to work at 5 AM, and is supposed to bring in the truck, he walks around for two hours, with the store opening at 7 AM before he finally decides to go ahead and break down the truck. He doesn't even get one entire pallet done before my friend gets to work at 9 AM. My friend starts breaking down the pallet and gets done with one pallet before I get to work at 10 AM. Idiot is nowhere to be found. I get to work, and my friend and I break down and work two more pallets, leaving one left. So while we're working on the last one, my boss (store manager) comes over to see my friend talking to me while we're working on the floats. He stands there and makes a remark along the lines of get to work, fine, understandable, his boss, the district manager was in, so he was under a lot of pressure. We continue working, eventually get to the point where the only thing left to do is breakdown the milk. Breaking down the milk will really work your nerves and muscles, because each pallet contains 9 stacks of milk, each stack contains 6 crates, and each crate has 4 gallons in it. You have to drag the crates, in stack, off the pallet, then across the cooler and get them organized where they need to go so that when you put the milk out it's easily accessed. We're working on that when my boss walks in with one of my department managers, and happens to see me standing on a pallet "doing nothing", while my friend is grabbing a stack off the pallet. Now keep in mind that there was no way I could do anything because two of us could not pull a stack down at once due to the angle we were in. He gives me a look and does that whole "I'm going to be an ******* and talk silently to another higher-up while giving you a dirty look" deal. Manager leaves, Dept. Manager stays and asks where idiot is, who happened to leave about 3 hours prior. Asks what he did today, we respond nothing, he says "I get it" and leaves. Turns out today I get a text from my friend who's on break, saying that we may get in trouble because Idiot told the other department manager that all we do in the cooler is text so we never get any work done. NO! YOU NEVER GET WORK DONE BECAUSE YOU'RE TOO DAMN LAZY TO ACTUALLY WORK! YOU ALWAYS WAIT UNTIL I GET THERE BEFORE YOU'RE SUDDENLY, "TOO COLD", OR YOUR BACK IS HURTIN, **** YOU DUDE, **** YOU. If that isn't grade A bull****. |

Alright now I've only really closed in the Summer, which is around 4 PM. During the school year, closing is around 9 PM. The summer crew's better at it but one of the reasons is that the manager's sometimes right there and helps finish some of the items on the list. Plus if something isn't done right, there's only three people there to yell at and we WILL Be right there next to the manager. -The last two hours are dead. It takes about three hours to clean, moreso on some days than others. So if you are closing, do you think it'd be a good idea to start on the closing ahead of time? You can still serve customers while you're closing. And it's best to not just sit on your asses reading. Almost every day they would sit on their asses reading or texting or talking on the phone and then realize "oh **** it's closing...oh dammit we'll be here until midnight!" and then do a half-ass job. -One person can clean the oven. It may take awhile when there's cheese stuck to it but you don't need to devote the entire staff to spending 30 minutes to cleaning the oven unless it's the last thing on the list. And the manager does NOT Want to see a complaint from a customer that you put gloves on with oven cleaner on your hand. -Mop the WALK IN. Not the Freezer, THE WALK IN. Do you think the morning crew likes walking in to find ice all over the freezer floor? (And this would happen at least TWICE a week at some points... >.<) -We can tell you didn't even use sanitizer. Because we have had the SAME box of Sanitizer packets up since JANUARY and it is now April. (Said pack is supposed to last about a month) And the floor STILL has stains in areas where someone unintentionally stomped on a piece of spinach repeatedly during the day. -Don't leave the sandwich vein on. It is supposed to be absolutely free of ice and frost. Now you just completely undid your work you did at 10 PM. -When the lights are on, then they are not off. The student centre does not automatically shut lights off when the building closes for the night, and they most certainly do not shut off the power. The electricity bill is high enough from all the fridges, and they DO Charge more rent from us when you leave the lights on all night. You burn the lights out this way, then YOU Replace them. -If the Subway light is still burned out two weeks later, then you most definitely did not replace it. No don't say "But it didn't arrive yet", we have ways of telling when it's there. -Don't leave articles of clothing in the walk-in and then say it was cleaned. Even if you did clean it and someone threw their shirt in there, the manager's not gonna believe you when you argue that you cleaned it. That's just what I experienced in Subway. My sister has had worse stories about stupid management on top of idiot coworkers, but she never had people mop the freezer and leave ice on the floor. I've definitely heard about managers who do stuff like jerk off in the back room/cooler on top of watching TV. I have to say that your management is grade-A bull****. It's always the Sycophants who wind up getting the management spots. (I had an old complaint about my sister's sexist shift lead) |

Epic Ladynerd Join Date: Jul 2000 Location: Forteresse de Valois Gender: Posts: 28,504 Thanks: 1,658 Thanked 1,820 Times in 1,042 Posts | Man, I was asked to do the perishables/fridge/dairy section of the store I used to work at (nightfill), simply because I was more capable than most of my co-workers (I had temporarily been the shift manager before that, until I decided it was too much work for their pathetic excuse for a "raise"). Perishables/fridge/dairy is a pile of fail, and it sucks more butts than anyone could think imaginable when you have to work with someone who's lazy and incompetent. I feel for you, dood. Just remember that you're a hard worker, and Idiot doesn't actually have anything on you (I swear, grocery stores are rumours' natural habitats or something, it's ridiculous). |
