In TN, it was generally more consistent....second Monday of August. FL, I don't remember, I was too little when I lived there. AL? Never went to school here before College, so I wouldn't know. But UAB's Fall classes begin Aug. 19th | |

Did I ever tell you about the time I saw a "Back to school sale" sign hanging over the Gun Department? And one thing I know is that the wal-marts out here are managed by greedy pigs. 1) The Wal-Marts out here would "Randomly" let go of people. Note the fact that I used quotation marks...because for some reason, they never get rid of the part-time people who'll quit when summer begins or when they graduate college. It's always the full-timers who they have to pay benefits towards that get laid off or fired. 2) Considering what most people in Wal-Mart have to put up with, they don't pay them enough. 3) And when they fire a full-timer, of course they lose a lot of people working so immediately...they fill in the hours lost by making everyone else work more or hire a new person at minimum wage or below, then work them to the bone. 4) They exploit so many loopholes to keep people on the clock as long as possible while trying to pay them as little as possible. 5) They're too cheap to hire an Inventory company so they make the slaves work overtime until as late as 3 AM while claiming their "Bonus" is the minimum wage pay. Dude? I don't think that's part of their job...aren't they supposed to run the store? 6) When people start exploiting the 15 minute breaks to take a 40 minute break, the bosses and managers then cut everyone's breaks to 10 minutes. Naturally, the managers and bosses are above the new rule so they get to keep someone past the end of their shift so they can go watch football in the backroom. Bonus points go for making people with leg and back injuries stand and lift stuff respectively while the managers are on break. 7) They write you up for missing work when you call in from the hospital, are in the backroom puking your guts up, or if you come in with a doctor's note saying you have walking pneumonia. My sister's document management job does this EXACT same thing. (They fired the receptionist for taking a weekend vacation despite having gotten someone to fill in.) |
