Thumbs down I swear, that forum is run by dumbasses.

It's about this other forum. There's this member there, and he's constantly posting dumb stuff, like innuendo or YTP (sometimes, mild porn). It's not like it was a problem at first. But he's been there for 2 years and with no signs of stopping.

A couple months back, me and AlienZombieGhost (another member there) told him to just make his own thread so he doesn't fill up the forum anymore, and he took it as insulting and starts flaming us. He then reports us for abuse and we get a warning. At this point, I'm already pissed.

Then, just a few hours ago, AZG suggests again that he make his own thread. He freaks out again, and after a long flame war, AZG is banned and this guy gets no repercussions WHATSOEVER.

My description may not be as crystal clear as I was hoping it to be, but I hope I've addressed the general part of the story. I'm going to write to the admin if I can get his email.

Poorly run forums are all over the internet.

Your only weapon is leaving them forever so they don't waste your time.

Is this Forum "MUGEN Infantry"?

It sounds like the mods being dumbasses. If the admin doesn't even try to see it from your side, or says anything relating to a threat just leave because it's gonna be a one way trip to shantytown for that forum.

Some forums are all about mild (to severe) idiocy. There are entire websites which cater to that sort of thing; Fark comes to mind, 4chan is being actively suppressed in my psyche. The brightest online community I can think of is the Metafilter family, if only because of the five dollar buy-in which weeds out some of the cheap idiots (this is similar to SomethingAwful, actually; they have a $10 buy-in).

Sounds like the people there sort of like his stupid posts. That, or the mods/admin simply don't monitor the place. Was this forum always that stupid? If it was always like that, you should totally move on, man; the web is a big place.

If it was a good community, did all the good people leave? If so, it's not good any more; forget about your old posts and cut your losses. If the good members are still there, consider splintering your own community.

It was a good community, but most of the good moderators left, so it seems they just shoved in random members to take their place.

It sounds like this person who is posting YTP and mild porn is one of the forum's "internet aristocracy" or is like the admin's brother or something and is thus banproof. I've seen people doing dumb**** like that all the time.

My favourite was this old RP forum where the admins were snootier than every stereotype about Art and English Majors rolled in one, as were most of the mods and their little favoured members. So they'd hold "Public" RPs but ignore everything the Joe the Plumbers would do. Then eventually, we just hung out in our own subforums with the GOOD mods who weren't so stuck up they had to pay someone to tie their shoes. Eventually they FINALLY Acknowledged the other members and asked why nobody was joining THEIR threads.

And don't get me started on VampireFreaks.

^ This. We need moar intellegent members.

And what's wrong with Youtube Poop? You know, besides the fact that it was getting spammed.

Yeah... if they're not doing anything about this guy, it's tacitly accepted at that forum. Move elsewhere (i.e. here) or gather more members for a revolt. A passive-aggressive approach probably isn't going to work if there are plenty of members who are just fine with whatever haberdashery he's posting.

This statement generated an immediate feeling of anger. In reflection, the poop meme is coupled with the hipster-ironic liking of esoteric things in a incongruous setting. It's what made Spongebob semi-popular with 13+ year olds and what made Duchamp's Fountain a cool thing to bring up in 90's conversations at the coffeehouse. I guess the fact that I don't "get" it is a sign I'm too old for this ****.

It's caused an uproar at said forum. Apparently, the spammer and the mod who banned AZG are actually buddies, so everyone's saying that that's the only reason the whole thing happened.

...I think it'll be best if I take a break from the forum for a while. I'll spend more time at VGF.

^Well, I guess that's fine, but I just don't get it. Like Ace said, it's just esoteric things in a incongruous setting.

A couple more points, because I like making lists:
  • Online interactions lack the subtlety of real-life; some bull**** number is that 15% of the content is the actual plaintext of the conversation, the rest is tone, body language, syncopation, etc. Plain words take on intentions that never meant to be taken, so it's likely that one of you is misunderstanding the other in an escalating war of emotion.
  • Online communities can lack the real effects of a community, but still simulate the feeling of obligation. If you're not getting anything out of that forum any more, you don't have to give anything back.
  • It's a running gag that internet drama is just internet drama, and that people are totally "serious business" about it, and such. It's okay to bitch about it, but I hope you're not taking it too seriously.
  • Study the Evacuation Plan to the best of your ability.
