For the creative-types

Most people think the worst thing you can have is writer's block. That's entirely untrue. Worse than writer's block is having too many great ideas at the same time and being completely overwhelmed by indecision for which you should work on first. In fact, there's that niggling suspicion, that if you choose one over the others, the remaining ideas will lose focus and fall by the way side. That your inspiration and enthusiasm for them may be lost forever. And there's the final nail in the coffin, that you think you'll choose something then suffer inertia almost immediately.

gaahhhhhh

(ps. this is actually a bizarre reaction to my intense procrastination over my "real" work, which just adds more and more indecision, since I'm technically meant to be doing something removed from all my creative ideas in the first place)

gaaahhhhhhh

I assume it's easier than artists block, but damn. I have no idea what to pick to draw also. Plus, the lack of time means i'll forget them eventually.

gaaahhhhhhh i feel your pain

Pull a few pages out of a notebook, try to separate your thoughts about each idea onto the different pages. Works for me usually.

My problem is just that I start brainstorming whenever I'm bored or just not really thinking about [insert mundane physical task here], which means it's often when I lack the means to write down my ideas, which I then forget by the time I get to a pen or keyboard.

There's this one script I've been writer's-blocked on for a few years, in fact. I've actually solved the block at least 2 or 3 times....when I've been in the shower or driving or in class or something.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

This would be the same as my problem--so many different places I can contribute to, but every time I choose, my brain pulls me in a separate direction.

At least with writer's block I can just mindlessly play video games.

I hate any and every form of block.

And I get them all the time. Rage.

That's right. The worst thing you can have is AIDS.

Arrow That's a double whammy.

^ Well, the worst thing is having both writers block and AIDS.

I'm pretty sure that if I had AIDS, I'd have a permanent writer's block. I'd be all like, "Well, I'm going to die a slow, horrible, agonizing death in a couple of months. What's the point of trying to plan out the next chapter in a book I'll never have time to finish anyway?"

Yeah. Metal Mario has been touchin' some monkeys as of late. The animal, not the band.

^^ Well, I'd think that if I was going to die, I'd want to leave my mark whatever way I can. If I'm a writer with only my writing ability, and my writing ability has been blocked with a block of writer's block, I'd think "This writing block is super bad!"

It's kind of depressing that we aren't spurred to do things with our lives until we have a timer on it. We all implicitly have one anyways (i.e. dying of old age), but the alarm bell doesn't really ring as loud as "cancer" or "AIDS" does.

Sun block isn't that bad, though. It helps me keep my ashen pallor.

^^ "irritating, painful, or worrying, especially in a small but persistent way"

Used in the context of "niggling suspicion", you should imagine it as an annoying, wormy suspicion that keeps threading into your thoughts.

^^ No, I hate sun block too. I hate all blocks. City blocks, data blocks... and especially Lawrence Block. Him and his crime novels.
