I am so pissed off right now.

So right now I am in my 6th semester of college in a Digital Media and Animation program. It's basically a CGI/computer animation program. And so far I was enjoying it quite a bit. Yet a requirement in the major is that we have to take 2 art history classes. The first one was pretty basic art history, see paintings, learn artist, take test, etc. The second art history class is all about art after 1945, and is quite more complicated than the first art history. It involves looking at modern art and doing all this analytical bull****. I tried taking it last year. It was uber confusing, so I had to drop it to save grade and take it again later.

So now I'm taking it again this semester. Same class. Same teacher. Same modern art crap. One of out assignments this year is to write a biography on an artist who worked after 1945, so our teacher had us pick a few artists to send for approval. Me, not liking most modern art at all because of lot of it is talentless gibberish (in my opinion), decided to submit a few modern traditional artists because I thought I'd like to write a paper on them more than some of these other artists who I couldn't care less about. Lo and behold my teacher rejects both of my proposals because they didn't match "her criteria".

So I decided to politely (it's bolded, so it's very important) about her criteria before my next class. She doesn't really answer. So I politely (again, still important) tell her that I'm not a big fan of most modern artists, that I prefered a traditional art (like actually art, not the single stripe on a canvass stuff) and that I would like to know why my suggestion was disapproved. So she responds that if I would have researched artists I would have found one. Hellooooooo. I was in a library looking up artist for over 3 hours the other day and I had a friend with me to prove it.

This library in question is at the college across the street, so naturally I make my way over there once every NEVER. I have no idea how it's organized, where to find anything, and the computer databases can only be accesses by their students, which I was NOT. So she tells me that I should have looked online (oh yeah, thanks for telling me) and that I was unmotivated and what not.

She specifically said to me that "if the world were full of people like you, nobody would have any jobs." And than she preceded to go on making fun of my intelligence, calling me uneducated, and basically telling me I was an idiot in front of the whole class. I try to defend myself but she says that the next thing she'll tell me is to get out of her class. So she kicks me out.

WHAT THE ****?!? I was being polite. I was smiling. I wasn't insulting her or anything, yet she felt the need to insult my motivation, my education, and my intelligence in front of the whole class. She doesn't know me. She doesn't know **** about how much I work. If I were that unmotivated, would I be in my 6th semester of a major that forces you to breath down work? [b]NO/b]. I'd be back home on my ass doing nothing with my life. So now I'm stuck with this bull**** teacher in a class I need graduate from this major with. Even better, she's the only one who teaches it. The best part? She's a teacher from my major, meaning I have A LOT of classes with her.

I can't take this **** anymore. I'm so lost. I have never been so pissed and so depressed at the same time. I can't do that class, yet I can't leave my major with so much work under belt to get nothing in return. I don't know what to do.

I hate it when people undermine hard work. That's super retarded. D}:

Do you think you'll be able to pass the class? It sounds like it'll be a stupid one with misconceptions and totally deaf teachers, but if you can get through it you'll be one step closer to your major.

I hope it starts sucking less. *hugz*

Wow, that teacher sounds like a real dick.

Knowing how colleges are these days though, she'll still have the job for another decade.

I hope things improve for you.

Yeah, she sounds like quite the irritating and perhaps snobby person. Sorry to hear about the crap that happened to you today.

I'm not really sure what steps you can take due to me not being helpful, but I guess you can just try to relax and calm down tonight, if that helps any.

Don't you all just hate tenure? I mean it allows teachers to be good for so many years then do whatever they want with basically no repercussions. Well that's the flaw in the system. Sorry you got stuck with her.

Make the best notations of what degrading things she said to you, write a letter to whoever is higher up than her in the school, and let them know about the harrassment and her inappropriate and unprofessional conduct. If you can get anyone who was in the class at the time to back you up with a letter of their own, that would also be useful. Make sure you only state what facts you know for certain. No accusations, just be professional and exact.

Explain the situation as fully as you can, including whatever work you did put into researching an artist for the project, and the criteria she had outlined, which you followed when conducting your research.

What she's done is unacceptable and you need to take it to the people in charge. Just because you're a student doesn't give any teacher the right to degrade and harrass you over an opinion. Particularly since, as far as you've told us, you had done what she requested (an artist from a specific time period; I guess if she defined the styles she wanted, you needed to go with those, but that doesn't excuse her behaviour either way).

Good luck.

Bite the bullet, pick out of a hat and go.
(By the way, making **** up about modern art is totally acceptable for a passing grade.)

^^^Tenure has benefits; it protects good teachers from frivolous complaints that could otherwise get them fired. The only problem is how easy it is to attain.

^^Yes. Do this, Auron. Regardless of tenure, conduct like your prof's absolutely warrants disciplinary action.

It totally won't expel you.

Next time she insults you, state that she eats Hickory Smoked Horse Buttholes for breakfast.

Then while she's thinking of a response, punch her in the face.

I prefer to play the bureaucracy game. If anyone was this outrageous, I'd just go over their head and have their department dean come down on them with the wrath of hades.
