OH MY GAWD, WHY DO I HAVE ASTHMA?

So, about...9 months ago, I'm up at my grandparent's cottage as usual, and I wake up one day feeling like my throat is a bit clogged up. I did just get out of a cold, so I thought maybe it's just a small little post-cold thing. So, I continue my day as usual, and suddenly, I felt as though my throat just closed and opened again. Starting to feel a bit lightheaded I went inside and relaxed for a while.

That just made things worse.

See, our cottage is right next to a huge field full of grasses and ragweed, and I didn't know this at the time, but I am majorly allergic to both. So going inside made it worse because they had just mowed the field, and our cottage is literally just across the street from it, so the pollen and everything from the stuff came floating into the place.

And that's where the asthma began.

Ever since then, I've been on a ton of medication: inhalers, pills, and more recently, nose spray.

Luckily, we have discovered the cause of my asthma; but it's not pretty.

I'm allergic to both grasses and ragweed, but also to two of the things I almost love more than anything: cats and dogs.

For cats, my asthma wouldn't be so bad if they don't keep shedding everywhere. (We have cats ourselves, so yeah. We're probably giving them away soon, too, sadly enough.)

And dogs, well, I can't even DESCRIBE what happens with dogs. I have a dog of my own, but he's an outdoor dog, so he's almost never in the house. We'll be keeping her. But she's not a problem. It's our grandma's dogs.

She has 2 dogs who go with them almost everywhere, including the cottage, so that just makes things worse, and that's why I got the nose spray. But they're, of course, in her house, and that's a place we regularly visit. Heck, our cousins live right next door to them.

Basically, asthma has taken a huge chunk out of my life, and now I can't do much of anything I used to be able to do, including my favorite sport, baseball.

Overall, asthma is a huge problem in my life, and sadly enough, it'll probably go on until I'm dead and gone. -_-

You may want to look into meditation. One of my friend use to have bad asthma, and was under huge stress. They were told from a friend to look into meditation (for the stress), during the class the meditation teacher noticed her asthma. Said that the breathing techniques used in the meditation would help ease the asthma.

Three years down the line, and I believe she's medicine free.

It's something to look into.

I went to a few classes for a while, but now I just practise at home. (£8 for a hour less (during work hours too), it's cheaper to do martial arts.)

My sister has asthma and she caught a horrible break last Christmas. Yeah, asthma sucks, I'm sorry to hear. Espeically with the not being able to be near cats and dogs. That would seriously bother me.

Yeah, well, it's gotten a bit easier to control. Earlier in the year I could hardly run 2 minutes around the gym without wheezing.

I have asthma myself, but I'm also horribly allergic to dogs, which is a shame- I also love them.

It's not too bad though. It prevents me from being physically exerting for extended periods of time, but other than that, I manage.

I'm sorry to hear, though.
