BTW, don't worry about your level!
You should be able to handle the party games no mater how far into the rpg you are.
That's not to say it'll be easy... but it should be fun.

I... seem to be stuck in a battle that's ending up in a draw...

I'm quite a lucky bastard; starting with 1HP, going against 2 Mumpkins, and managing to fight all the way into a situation in where our Scorching Breezes will kill the both of us.

Edit: Oh, nevermind. It just ended with me winning... I am a lucky f***ing bastard.

You can't enter from the map, you have to walk in from another area.
A simple hint. What other area is normally around that part of the map?

yep, you should be able to get one EXP from them regardless, as long as you aren't teamed up with anybody.
It only comes around once a year, so there's no harm in it. Enjoy it while it lasts.
