I see Nintendo continues to fiercely defend its position as the dorkiest console brand.

Nintendo called it "Wii" because since it's pronounced, "We", it means that this console will be for everybody. It's supposed to be an appeal for everyone worldwide to play the console. Now of course "Revolution" sounds better, but that's also because the name has been hammered down into our brain to make it sound a helluva lot better. Besides, who would be discouraged to buy the Wii when it can do:

Backwards capability
Download NES-N64 (and some sega games as well)
Have a new controller while having a backup controller with the old style
Having some kickass games.

With those qualities, the name is far in the back of my head. Now everyone stop thinking nasty and then you'll get used to it.

Nah. They made up a nonsensical Engrish word because it could be used universally. Granted, a Playstation is still a Playstation in every country in the world, just like the Xbox is an Xbox in every country in the world. Might make sense if they still had the "Famicom/Nintendo Entertainment System" divide, but it really doesn't.

If they wanted the console to be for everybody, they'd have designed it in a way that would appeal to traditional developers, not just the crazy ones like Shiggy. A great many games will be totally unworkable with the Rev/Wii controller, and there isn't a hard-drive; these factors can only reduce the number of games that get put out on the system. I don't exactly have fond memories of the dry spells that have been dogging Nintendo since the N64 was released.

If everyone did the same thing and not take risks, the world would be a boring place.

I have to say that's counting your chickens before they hatch. Wait until the Wii in unvieled and E3, THEN you can say what it can or can't do.

No there isn't. Doesn't mean you can't save games on it. The system contains 512 MB of Flash Memory (the same technology used in USB keys and the iPod Nano) and is compatible with USB devices.

See Gimpy's response.

I hope you do know that Nintendo made a traditional controller as a backup, and it comes with the remote.

So you're trying to say that the Nintendo Wii won't be capable of DOWNLOADING games? Do your homework dude. It's still able to save.

And you really shouldn't overlook the controller. Remember, it was Nintendo that created:

the L and R buttons
The Control Stick
The Z button.
and Sensitivity Buttons (See Gamecube L and R buttons)

The only people that ditched the nintendo was Electronic Arts (EA), who only use sports games anyways.

No, many other developers "ditched" Nintendo as well. Where did you get that only EA "ditched" Nintendo?

I remember reading something that said Nintendo did NOT invent the control stick. I'm not sure if that is true though.

When presented to the masses, many will judge the console as a whole from its awful name.

That's exactly why Microsoft decided not to name their console the "Xbox 2", because it would appear inferior to Sony's PlayStation 3.

Nintendo's intent may have been publicity, but whether they wanted this type of publicity is another question.

^ at least Nintendo named their system instead of creating a sequel for the system.

Believe it or not, Nintendo's done "sequel consoles" too.

Nintendo -> Super Nintendo -> Nintendo 64

Game Boy -> Game Boy Color -> Game Boy Advance

Where are these lemmings going? The Super Nintendo Super Shire! Hop in line and follow them there!
