Well, at least it's more original than:

Nintendo -> Nintendo 2 -> Nintendo 3

or

Game Boy -> Game Boy 360 -> Game Boy 1080

(and you do know that I am saying this tounge-in-cheek?)

It's better to be unoriginal than original and gay.

^It's not really possible for a console to be..."gay" as you put it, since they are inanimate objects, that are incapable of feeling love.

However, I agree with Sean on this. "Wii" is the only original sounding name. I'd actually prefer "Wii" over "Gamecube 2". Although I liked the name "Revoloution" better.

I dont really care how stupid "Wii" sounds, I'd rather have an original sounding console name, then having unoriginal names like PS3 and X-Box 360.

I wouldnt care if the next Nintendo console was called the "Nintendo STD" or the "Nintendo Suckbox". I'd still buy it. Names do not matter, nor do graphics. It is the quality of the games that go above all other factors.

I'll revise what Yami said; it's better to be unoriginal than retarded. I'll take a quality side-scrolling platformer over some "innovative" turd like Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life any day.

You bought that game? Is it any good?

So the 360 isn't very original, atleast they have it out

Until I can actually use the Revolution, I can't say anything but "if this is anything like the gamecube or even more annoying, 2 birdies to Nintendo"

Well, look at how well that turned out for Nintendo--Square Enix and Rockstar each ended up putting one game out on the 'Cube (one lousy game, at that); Namco put out 'Soul Calibur II' and 'Tales of Symphonia', and not much else worth mentioning. Meanwhile, each developer put out a good dozen or so games each on the competing consoles.

My point? Showing me a list of developers that are 'excited' about the Revolution/Wii/StarcubeAstroDeluxe doesn't tell me much.

Agreed Booya. I'd thank you for your comment but I'm saving mine for when somebody comes in here and says that the Wii is the greatest system ever just so I can throw them a quick anti-Nintendo bash for the lousy controller idea

You know, rewording what you said is not going to help.
You said: "these factors can only reduce the number of games that get put out on the system."

I gave you a list, and now in a last ditch attempt you're going to imply that the games are gonna suck. You're not a fortune teller, so I'll still say you should hold your tongue before you end up biting it towards the end.

People have as much right to say the games are going to suck as other people have of saying the games are going to kick ass.

A Wonderful Life? It sucks. Out of 10 years, I only made it to about 1.5 until I just couldn't it anymore.

I heard a Gamestop employee talk with some woman about how rewarding it is when you animals start loving you... except they start loving you throughout the regular course of the game. Keep their food bins full and brush them once in a while. Whoopty doo.

How do you get animal feed? Press the A button every couple of steps. How do you grow crops? Press the A button every couple of steps to hoe, then go back and press the A button every couple of steps to plant. How do you water the plants? Press the A button every couple of steps. How do you dig in the excavation site? Press the A button every couple of steps. How do you gather eggs? Guess. Each one of these over and over and over and over and again and again and again and again. For about 95% of the game. Not so much a strain on my brain as a strain on my sanity.

I don't judge a console by it's name. I judge consoles by games. And soon, we'll see how the games are.

There may be some people who don't care about a console's name, but there are more people who do.

I am WELL-AWARE that a console's name has no correlation to technical aspects of the console itself. However, an average common gamer will most likely be turned off by the console's incredibly stupid name and won't purchase it.

I still can't see what was wrong with naming the console "Revolution".

Developers being "excited" about a console doesn't mean jack until they start actually making games. As it stands, EA is putting at least one Madden on the system that uses the controller's motion sensing stuff to throw the ball. Granted, I'm not sure how many Madden-ballers actually want to do any sort of physical activity while owning people, but they are getting at the very least one Madden game.

Thing is, the same names are excited about this system as were excited about the GCN. How did that turn out? Pretty badly in the long haul, as they had no exclusives in the true sense of the word and they got the short end of the stick in terms of ports.

What was wrong with Revolution? That's simple: it made sense and Nintendo likes to not make sense.

I was pretty happy with the Gamecube. Sure, there are more third party games that I would have liked to see on the system, but the games I do have are good enough. (though yeah, Harvest Moon is a bit on the boring side)

I'm still optimistic about the new system.

I say lets wait a week (until E3 and some solid info to go on) before continuing this discussion

You're clearly talking cack. I wasn't implying the games are going to suck; I was implying the Wii's third-party support could be every bit as lousy as the Gamecube's (and the N64's) was. Don't tell me my prediction is totally off-the-wall; history repeats itself, damn it. People don't buy an N64 or a GCN these days because they're interested in the third-party games.

^ You seem to forget that the best game on the Gamecube last year (Resident Evil 4) WAS a third-party game.

And you are talking like there is no third-party support at all. While, there are companies who skipped over the Gamecube, I'd say that's only less than half third party games. I found that, more often than not, if there is a major third party game released, that there would be a version on the Game Cube.

EDIT: Doing a quick headcount of my Gamecube games, I (quite surprisingly) found that 21 of the 31 games I own are made by a third party company. So, I would say reports of Gamecube having no third party support is a little exaggerated.

It may have won Game of the Year, but Capcom ported RE4 to the PS2 with a bunch of additions (like playing as that chick in the red dress) for a reason.

HINT: It has something to do with the sales.

And how many of those are third-party exclusives? As far as I can tell, most GCN third-party games are multi-console and get put on the system just to get a few more sales.

^Give the lady a see-gar. I can count on one hand the number of games I have that were third-party GCN exclusives (those being 'Sonic Adventure DX', 'Sonic Adventure 2: Battle', 'Ikaruga', and 'Smuggler's Run 2: Warzones'); of those, three are ports from the Dreamcast and the other is thoroughly mediocre.

(EDIT: Whoops missus--forgot the 'Resident Evil' series. Capcom didn't stint there--there's five RE titles on the 'Cube. Of course, only two of them are exclusive to the 'Cube (those being RE0 and RE, which I also own), and one of those is a remake. But anyway.)
