Don't want to be redundant so, http://www.vgf.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18739

EDIT: I watched the trailer and it shows that there is a graphical improvement between Wii and Gamecube (the first scene involves the Melee characters morphing into the Brawl characters)

I actually meant that when promoting a new console you should show games, not people playing them.

Well, as they say, the big selling point isn't the graphics, but how people would play the game; with the wacky new Wii-mote, just showing the gameplay screen is kind of dull.

Pictures and movies don't just show pretty graphics. They show level design (which is NOT what the level looks like, for those of who think that), battles both common and boss, puzzles, and what the characters can do to overcome those obstacles. Curious plot clips (looming bigass boss) that snag a person's interest can also be found, and once in a while there may be some humorous antic (for example, a clip from the first Earthworm Jim where he starts flexing and his pants fall down).

And in some cases, the total lack or weakness or those things (like an early NSMB movie that depicted Mario basically running directly to the right and jumping once in a while, hopefully in the first stage).

I mean, go watch the Alundra opening movie and tell me that doesn't make you want to play the game.

(Granted, it's not like I have much faith that people who are rooting for the Wii give a damn about any of these things.)

Well it has been stated the SSB will not use any Motion-capture gimmicks (for, at least, the gameplay) and will, in fact, play just like the last one (you can even use the Gamecube controller)

^ Yeah, but the games they do show people waving their hands around do use the Wii-mote.

I partially concede to CK's remarks, though. I sort of meant, though, adding how you do the motion adds to the gimmick factor; why not pimp that out?

^Maybe Nintendo would do well to learn from its past mistakes. As I recall, they spent a lot of time playing up GBA-GCN connectivity and the goddamned e-Reader, and both ended up as little more than cheap gimmicks. I'm not saying the Wiimote (whoever came up with that adorable name deserves to be slapped around with a dead fish, by the way) is destined to fail; I'm just saying that it's generally better to focus on the content than on the medium.

On the other hand, I might could just be behind the times. I mean, every time I'm in Gamestop, the ad showing on the XBox360 display depicts...people playing the XBox360. And they're not even flailing around amusingly like Wii players; they're just sitting there, playing the game with rapturous joy on their faces (as if 'Kameo' has shown them the face of God).

Don't forget all that time they spent hyping up that stupid touch screen thing. Boy was that ever a bust.

^ I remember reading (in, I think, Nintendo Power) that the DS touch screen has evolved from "must find ways to use it" gimmick to a feature that is used depending on the game. (I should also say that Metroid Prime Hunters -- which I bought two weeks ago -- features the best use of the touch screen I experienced so far)

The article hypothesized that same will occur involving the Wii Remote (that's the official "non cute" name) and it's motion capture capabilities.

Doesn't mean the games will be good. Kirby Canvas Curse makes good use of the touch screen, and it's an empty, shallow gaming bore that everybody dumped themselves over for a month until the fad was over and it was no longer cool to mention in every post. And despite Trauma Center's excellent use of the touch screen (it's a surgery game), nobody seems to care about it. Castlevania is a good game, but all it uses the touch screen for is the sake of using it.

^ I have yet to see a single copy of Trauma Centre.

I saw Pheonix Wright once and I regret not getting it, since I haven't seen it since.

I still prefer traditional controls as apposed to the touch screen, but the DS is still a helluva good system. In pretty much every game, there are control options that both include or exclude the use of the touch screen. If the Wii were to include similar options with it's games, it should actually expand it's audience, those who prefer traditional methods (for whom they have actually made a seperate controller) and those who are looking for something different. But thats if they decide to do that from the get go, rather than forcing the sensor into it (scratching off the picture in Mario & Luigi anyone?).

I'm adding Phoenix Wright to my list of "DS Game Flaws"

It is the best DS game I've played, but it could've easily been left on the GBA. The first four chapters work fine without the touch screen (I didn't use it once on the third and fourth chapters. When I used it on the first two, it was for the sake of using it. And as much as I wanted to do it, I didn't want anybody hearing me yell "OBJECTION!"), and the fifth chapter has no reason to exist. For those who don't know the story, over in Japan this is a GBA game with only the first four chapters. When Capcom brought it to America, they put it on the DS and added a fifth chapter with features that use the touch screen. It feels like it was taken from another game (I wouldn't be surprised if it was), and even though I haven't finished it yet I'm sure I'm almost done and I haven't seen any touch screen uses that couldn't have been done with the control pad (the only thing I haven't seen yet is dusting for fingerprints with probably couldn't be done well with a control pad. But why include it anyway?) This loser chapter should have been left out (and it could have been without any damage to the story of the other four... in fact, I think including the fifth chapter hurts the story) and the game left on the GBA.

Admittedly, it is nice to have what somebody said on screen while you're looking through the Court Record, without having to back out to remember what you were looking for something about. So, like Castlevania, this game uses the dual screens rather than the touch screen.

Another nice thing about chapter 5 is up until now the only character I hated was von Karma, who you were supposed to hate. Actually, the same could be said of Red White, though he was never to the point of flipping him off or cursing at him. And at least he showed some sense of humanity at the end of the trial. A few characters were kind of irritating, but they had a plot reason for being that way, and in the end none of them were really bad people. But now there's characters I hate because they're unintentionally obnoxious. First there's that girl who follows you around and throws the word "scientifically" around like Wii rooters do with "innovative", and the Chief of Police who, no less than three times, has sat there smiling for ten seconds after being asked a question before answering.
