Game of the Week: Phoenix Wright

As soon as my exams are finished I'm getting this game, it looks like a lot of fun.

OBJECTION!!!!

Please nominate at least 3 games (maximum of 5) by Thursday, from then you can vote. Before you nominate, do check if your game of choice has been featured already by checking the GotW archive (http://www.smbhq.com/users/snss/GotW.htm)

I LOVE THIS GAME, BUT I'D LOVE IT TEN TIMES MORE IF THEY HAD LEFT OUT EPISODE 5.

I'm not sure about Europe, but the game's lack of sales in the States caused it to be pretty quickly discontinued. Capcom was supposed to print more copies, but I never heard the outcome. People suck.

I've heard this game is really good. I should pick it up the next time I get money. Even if I say that a lot. CK's rant at SNSS about it was pretty convincing if you ask me.

I nominate Mega Man X2.

This is where marketing comes in. If I didn't hang out on a video game forum, I would never have known Phoenix Wright existed. WWII FPSs get commercials on Comedy Central, established franchises get commercials everywhere, and anything else gets commercials either on G4 or nowhere. This game got commercials nowhere. Hence no sales.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

'Phoenix Wright' is a niche title. It's easier to justify buying advertising time for a WWII console shooter than a handheld lawyer adventure game. Why? Because it's easier to sell people on blowing up Nazis than on courtroom drama.

I vote for 'North and South'. I will go on voting for 'North and South' until the sun explodes. And it will never be GOTW.

Oh, this is that lawyer game? I couldn't tell from the title.

I think another problem is it'd be impossible to advertise Phoenix Wright and make it clear it's a comedy instead of a drama. Sure, all five cases are about murders, but there's a guy who talks 1337 5P33K, people with names like "Wendy Oldbag" and "Jack Hammer", and even a Zero Wing reference. And at some point you have to cross examine a parrot.

The dialogue's also pretty funny, but most of it wouldn't make sense out of context (i.e. the beginning of Oldbag's testimony)

^It would be an easy sell to Adult Swim viewers, but they didn't have any ads for it. Not even during the obvious choice, Harvey Birdman.

If you could make a commercial out of it. The only thing I could imagine working is a real-life courtroom case in the Phoenix Wright vein.

...know what? I just contradicted myself. I originally said it would be impossible to make an ad for PW and make it clear it's a comedy, but I just proved you could. O_o

I never actually played the game, but it sounds fun, and the Nintendo reviews probably do it justice.

I happily nominate Quest 64(laugh, but I do love this game)

Edit: Whoops, past tense.

It was supposed to be, but I never heard the outcome of that. I honestly haven't been going to Gamestop much lately.

What I wish I had done was preorder it from Capcom. They were giving away free Phoenix Wright finger styluses with the preorders, and I was stupid and passed it up. Maybe they'll do the same for Phoenix Wright: Justice for All.

We had a 'commercial' for the game over here...sort of, it's 5 seconds long. It's the sponsor of a comedy show here. Basically it's a massive DS. A guy stands out of the mic with a megaphone and shouts "Objection!!" And some people on the top screen (supposedly the background) start to dance.

Might help if there was an announcement of when voting starts and a list of what we're voting for.
