"We'd like people to play new, low-scale games for ¥500 yen or ¥1000 yen," said Mr. Iwata. 500 or 1000 yen translates to 4.50 and $8.99 USD, for those of you who are not yen savvy. Have no fear, we had to look it up as well. "We'd like to put an end to turning games into big titles -- like taking simple game concepts, just adding modes and selling for 5800 yen," continued the Nintendo president. You can't beat 5800 yen with a stick, for the record. For gamers shopping around, Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade charges 400 through 1200 points per game, which is between five and twelve U.S. dollars. And considering that Nintendo's library is world's better than Microsoft's, the Virtual Console is looking even more attractive. Load times will be super-fast as well as Iwata expressed his hopes for the service. "It probably won't be that this is the case for every game, but we're bugging the development staff to make startup take three seconds." However, there is ongoing debate online about whether Nintendo is including classic games in their under $10 category, or if that only applies towards those new "simple game concepts." As of now, it certainly appears to be only the new games, until we hear clarification that says otherwise. Source: IGN |
