Game of the Week: Quest 64

Normal service has resumed.

My cousin had this game. I hadn't heard of it before then, although that was probably because Ocarina of Time was being released at about the time this was, therefore it was ignored somewhat. But from what I played, it seemed like a simple, enjoyable RPG.

Please nominate at least 3 games by Saturday. I will then put up a list for you to choose from. Before you nominate, please check the Game of the Week archive (http://www.smbhq.com/users/snss/GotW.htm) to see if your chosen game has not already been featured.

I'ma nominate Legend of Zelda 2: Adventure of Link.

I only played the very beginning of Quest 64 and never got far at all. I didn't like it very much, it moved kinda slowly. I've heard other people call it absolutely terrible, though, so I dunno.

It was a below average rpg, but that's the basic fact. It also is a lot of fun, and quite an original style.

What I like mainly about it is that you're not going on multiple side quests to get major equipment, but can enjoy the actual game by simple leveling up. If you've never played an rpg before, this game'll -probably- get you into them.

Even though I love the rpg, I gave it a 3/10, but that's because I never write biased reviews. I hate FF7, but I'd give it quite a high rating because that's what it deserves.

Arrow Quest64 >> Superman 64

Ah, Quest64. I purchased this little gem at LoserMart*, partly because it came with a free memory pack. If you didn't know, Quest64 was one of those games that required the memory pack to save your game. It's a game notorious for being a bad game, but I found it to be moderately entertaining, enough so that I'd play it again. (If, say, I ran out of games.)

Neat things include:
  • Independent stat leveling...
  • Pleasant looking graphics, sort of
  • You find a lot of those element things. I like finding things.
  • An okay battle system which allows some real-time action

Gripes include:
  • You pretty much have to develop the Water element, otherwise you're stuck with your one healing item
  • With independent stat leveling, if you don't get hit a lot, you will hurt much later on in the game. I remember spending half an hour with some weak enemies, letting them hit me over and over again to level up defense. Same goes with the other stats, in the same sense.
  • Lack of any real plot or character development. The story goes nowhere, resolving nothing, and kind of confusing (I mean, what's up with Shannon?).
  • Lack of much to improve yourself. You get free items and no equipment to modify. It's all stats and which element(s) you want to level.

Ok, I'll have to throw one more game(s?) into the hat.

Here are the games you must vote for:

Legend of Zelda 2: Adventure of Link
Diddy Kong Racing
Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire

Vote until, uh...Wednesday.

Adventure of Link gets my vote. Despite the fact I suck at it.
