Game of the Week: The Legend of Zelda: Adventure of Link (vote)

I have this game on the Collector's Edition disc that was released here a while ago. Very limited. I have played Adventure of Link a few times and I'm not very good at it. It is widely regarded as the black sheep of the Zelda series, mostly because of the 2D sidescrolling.

You have until Thursday to nominate at least 3 games to become eligible for Game of the Week next week. Before you nominate please check the GotW archive (http://www.smbhq.com/users/snss/GotW.htm) to see if your game hasn't already been featured.

Since we just had a discussion on this game in the Zelda forum I'll copy my post from there to here.

Quote:
I remember beating random enemies in the swamp area time after time just to gain experience. One of the reasons why I dislike RPGs is that when you cannot beat a boss it may not be because you aren't good enough, but it may be because your character isn't strong enough. Still, I thorouhgly enjoyed playing through the game on my Zelda collector's disc, after I had rented it once before on the NES, when I didn't like it at all.
I do think it's one of the least good Zelda games, but that still means it's very enjoyable. I think it's a lot better than Minish Cap as well.

I don't know why everybody's ripping on Minish Cap. I liked it.

Anyway, I love AoL. Very hard, but also very fun. Even though it's not 'traditional' Zelda, it's a good game all-around.

Sadly, I've never gotten very far. I think the last place I got to was the Down Thrust, then I started to suck.

Oh, I'ma nominate Diddy Kong Racing.

Minish Cap was a good game. Not a good Zelda game, but we can't all be Zelda, now can we? I liked it better than the Oracle series, which tried very hard to be more than Link's Awakening clones, but failed in the end.

I just made the Zelda Forum topic about AoL, because I actually just spent some time playing through it. The end of the game gets absurdly tough, and it's more realistic to spend most of the last castle running from the enemies than it is to fight them - I mean, they're tougher than the boss. All the same, for how hard it is, and how unorthodox: I think the game is a great achievement for videogames in general. It's truly a classic, in my eyes, and leagues ahead of the games that depend nowadays on shoving blocks or fishing for their gameplay.

Not my favorite Zelda game but still a good game none the less.

I nominate Wario Land 3.

I actually thought I was one of the few who disliked Minish Cap. I love the Oracles, though. Almost as much as LA.

It's a good game. Probably more combat-oriented than any of the other Zelda games. I'm lazy so that's all I'll say I guess.

Ninja Gaiden

I never actually beat the game, but it is pretty damn hard for me. Same with the original Legend of Zelda...yet the rest don't give me trouble.

Diddy Kong Racing ftw. Fun game, more interactive and challenging than Mario Kart 64, and even got its own clone(Lego Racers).

I was playing AoL on my gameboy a few minutes ago, I'm still lost on the first temple, the farthest one on the right of the map. The temple that has that same music from the SSBM Hyrule Temple.
