Metroids, no Samus. Lotsa Mario and Mario 2 things, no Mario. The artist must be a huge Mario 2 fan, because there's a ton of references. LOLO! Ganon's there, and the Link's Awakening Egg, but no Link. Protoman is either kidnapping or rescuing Princess Peach... Luigi seems to be on a date with Roll. Dr. Wily, Dr. Robotnik, and some other doctor apparently built R.O.B. It's just so much fun to look at and point out all the different things you notice. Like DK chucking a barrel at an Octorock, and (Is that Mr. E.A.D. from F-Zero?) is jumping over to get 100 points. |

WTF are Firebrand, Sonson, the Goemon second player, Sir Arthur, Kid Dracula, that DigDug enemy, MIGHTY BOMB JACK, a Gradius Moai head, MASTER HIGGINS, THE BURGER TIME GUY, RICK TAYLOR, the Parodius cat ship, THE ROCKIN' KATS HERO, a Darius enemy, MAPPY, A HIGEMARU PIRATE, Dragon Warrior slimes, some people I don't feel like listing, and a bunch of people even I don't know who they are doing on here? What really tells me that this is fanart is the Rockin' Kats hero. Has anybody EVER cared about that game? ![]() Where are these lemmings going? The Super Nintendo Super Shire! The only Nintendo game Rick Taylor's been in wasn't even released in America. If Sonson and the Higemaru Pirate have ever been in a Nintendo game, they've never been released in America either (and Pirate Ship Higemaru was never available in America until Capcom Classics Collection). ![]() Where are these lemmings going? (Ice Climbers on the side of the Mountain of the Wind Fish, Mr. Game and Watch panicing that Diskun(?) is in a burning building.) I'm guessing they decided to show lesser known characters for it, I mean, everyone pretty much knows the main characters of the more popular Nintendo games, so they probably decided not to bother. |

As an advertisment for the virtual console, I think it's fairly perfect. The biggest selling point of it is the nostalgia factor. What better way to promote that than to dig up as many older, obscure characters as they can. Even if the games themselves weren't that great, people remember the characters fondly. The whole thing looks like it's designed to make people say "Oh yeah... I remember that!" I think it's the very fact that many of the characters are so obscure that proves it's real promo art. I've been into video games almost my whole life and I can only name about two thirds of the characters. I doubt that anyone on this board could do much better. That's significant, because it shows just how far they went to include characters. Without doing a decent amount of research, chances are that no one person would actually be able to name every character. They even went so far as to actually avoid the most popular characters (Mario, Link, Samus, Sonic, and Mega Man) despite strong showings from their respective series because the presents of such strong icons would overwhelm the theme they were going for. That's shows quite a bit of fore thought went into it. Finally, as Ace said, I believe this is targeted at Japan. ![]() |

It's kind of like an emulator, only run by Nintendo and it costs some money to download the games. Thats what I heard about it atleast. |

Nintendo recently signed a deal that'll include Sega and TurboGrafx-16 games as well. ![]() |

But sheesh, they're choosing to advertise this service with Rockin' Kats and Mighty Bomb Jack? Nostaliga or not, don't those games suck? ![]() Where are these lemmings going? Also, I'd like to point out the Trademark symbol next to the Wii logo. Why would a fan bother including that? Last edited by GRENTLEMEN; 08-07-2006 at 09:17 PM. | |

Maybe I'm just being extra pissy about believing anything because of that. It's not that I can only focus on those ones, it's just those ones get me the most about questioning this picture. It's not that I don't appreciate those obscure characters, I just find it hard to believe Nintendo would put out something like this since their mentality is always "OMG, MARIO!" ![]() Where are these lemmings going? And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!" |
