I know I remember hearing that Nintendo had made a large amount of Wii units to be sold by Christmas- I think the number was something like 2 or 4 million. I wish I could remember where I heard that. I just know that, for sure, they have a LOT more Wii units to be shipped out than PS3 units. I'm willing to bet the Wii will pass the 1 million units sold mark by next week, or sooner.

Either way- this has been a terrific year for Nintendo.

I may not like the Wii, but I can respect Nintendo's business acumen. By releasing an underpowered system, Nintendo has kept manufacturing costs well down, to the point that they claim to make a profit on every unit sold (something Sony and Microsoft haven't managed). Not to mention, I've heard tell that it's a great deal less costly to develop a title for the Wii than for the other systems (likely, again, due to the Wii's comparative lack of power).

Yeah, Nintendo looks set to profit immensely this generation. Might not be great for the gamers, but then, Nintendo's fans don't seem to care how Nintendo treats them.

Well, the majority of Nintendo fans wants to play good and enjoyable video games. A lot of them don't really care if it's underpowered, as you say. It's not like they're treating the fans like garbage or anything.

I'm hoping that new games for the Wii will be at least original and/or fun. So far with how great the reviews are for games like Twilight Princess and Wii Sports, it's looking pretty good for Nintendo, and the fans. Plus all Nintendo fans are looking forward to Smash Bros., and that brings in a whole world of SSBM fans as well.

I think 360's just started making a profit, some where around $23 per system sold.

I heard Sony is losing close to $300 per system sold right now.

Not to mention the Mario Party games- the N64 saw MP 1 through 3 and the GameCube saw 4 through 7. I haven't heard anything yet about Mario Party carrying over to the Wii, but I'm willing to bet it'll happen soon enough. And with the new things that can be done with Wii controllers, they'll be able to do so much more that couldn't be done on the N64 and GCN.

Bah, I never really liked Mario Party. It was okay at first but they just killed it with so many sequels and spin-offs. The same way they killed the Power Rangers.

Now, Super Smash Bros. for the Wii, I am looking forward to more than anything else. With all the new characters, items, levels, and other crap, it's bound to be tons more fun than it's predecessor, and take it from me, Super Smash Bros. Melee was pretty damn fun.

They reduced manufacturing costs on the 360 that fast? Good for them--Microsoft can afford to lose money on the console front, but they'll probably have a better time of it if they can avoid ending up $7 billion in the red (like they did with the original XBox).

Ha! Not in the days of Mr Germany (David Gosen) running Nintendo of Europe. Sooo many delays.

You know what Europe needs? Europe needs its own copy of Reggie.
That is the single most convincing argument in favor of human cloning.

Nintendo had and will continue for several months to have a supply advantage. Once that advantage is gone, so is the sales lead.

With its underpowered system, Nintendo made it official they don't care they're not in the same market with others, but yes, this is a smart move financially because they never were going to be able to compete in that same market anyway, so they might as well continue to go after kids and Nintendo diehards. They probably did waste a good deal of money on the silly controller, though.

Sony is losing $250-350 per unit, easily the biggest gamble ever by anyone. Microsoft is making a profit of $75 per unit, but I was expecting a price drop by now or no later than E3. At $250, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo's making money already.

Yes, but the silly contrller is going to be the selling point for almost 1/4 of the Wii owners. For old people, real little kids, teens, and a select few others, this is the only reason they bought the Wii.

I tried to get a Wii today by showing up to Toy's R Us an hour early because they had told me over the phone that they were getting 9 of them. I knew it was kind of a half-assed amount of time to camp out, but I didn't think it'd be as bad as it was since it wasn't launch day. There were 24 people in line, and most of them had been there all night. Then I went elsewhere and found 18 in line for the 15 they were getting at Circut City. One of them offered me a spot in line for $150, but I declined.

I'll might end up getting one once the price drops and more games come out.

The same is not true for the PS3 or Xbox 6.28318...

Hate to the state the obvious but Sony and Nintendo would have been tied right now if Sony could manufacture the systems faster. Granted the Wii is selling a lot better than anyone expected. Infact, a whole lot better, but we all know if Sony had the supply they would be neck to neck with Nintendo.

I'm going 22 miles out of town to camp out and try to get a Wii again tonight. They start selling their new stock at 8 tomorrow. Wish me luck.

*Wishes Deku Trii luck*

I will be getting my Wii some time in March, I will have the money then. I have already realized that my chances of getting a Wii for Christmas are very slim. Unless "Santa" somehow comes over to my side and sees the price advantage.

I know if Sony had production of PS3 up to par, their sales would be way higher.

But this shortage has created an interesting point of view that is spreading. I live in Rancho Cucamonga California. There are tons of rich family teens in my city, most that wanted PS3's, but with the sell out, everyone is getting Wii's.

Because this happened, all these kids are telling their friends how great the Wii is. The ones that did get the PS3's are not impressed with the system, they say it's not much better then the 360, and really not worth it, and they are spreading this point of view.

Now, I work at Circuit City, and in the last weeks our selling trends have really started to shine on Wii. We get small shippments of Ps3's (12 at the most) and the systems actually sit on the shelves for almost the full week before selling out. Where the Wii we have had contstant shippments of close to 40 units, all of which sell out before mid afternoon. Even all of our workers want Wii's, only 5 out of 70 are getting PS3.

I believe if Sony would have shipped the PS3 properly, they would have full lead. But with their slip up, people got to test and perfer the Wii.... I don't know if this trend is following in other cities, but Wii is the system to get out here, above the PS3 staying on the self...
