Exclamation RED STEEL: My first impressions.

It was a little frustrating at the very beginning, because the game is asking you to remember different hand motions for controls rather than buttons, but once you get into the groove of it - it's a neatly fluid game. I was having a really good time last night, and played through the whole first area. It's very exciting with a lot of complex environments, and a lot of attention to detail. The graphics can be both beautiful or a bit sparse, depending on the environments.. But the action in the game really pulls your attention away from the way it all looks, and more concerns you with getting back at the guy insulting you and firing at you. The feel is a lot like an arcade light gun game like Maximum Force, the way the action is pretty constant and guys like to take cover and jump out from behind things. Most of the objects in the environment are breakable, and you can flip tables over to take cover. I'm not a fan of complicated FPS games(more into the first Tribes, the Timesplitter series, or just your usual deathmatch), so maybe this is a skewed opinion, but the bits of simplicity work for me. And the sword-fighting seemed pretty tight, although a bit video-gamey as you might expect (one particular motion always blocks, another dodges, etc.) - which seems actually a better approach than expecting masterful swordwork from someone who's never properly fenced in his life. I like the gameplay, and I like how the story begins.

I typed this up in response to Boo's asking. I'd prefer discussion on the subject carry on in this topic.

Hey, cool. Still not getting a Wii, but it's nice to know Wii-owners haven't gotten totally shafted (yet). Anyhow, thanks, baby.

I don't have it yet but many of the online reviews consider it poor. Here is a great positive review that shuld encourage you to buy it.

To be fair, it seems like most critics think all FPS's should be Halo. I don't need every platformer I play to be Mario, and that applies to all other genre leaders. Not that I pay much attention to reviews, anyway. If you only buy the games the media rate well, you'll end up with a lot of crap. That, and you'll be missing out on some of the funnest games.

If I didn't have my Wii in my living room where my mum often resides (I'm told the f-bomb is dropped a few times), I would get this without a second thought. I don't wanna play a game where I have to wait until my mum goes out then I can play it.

Hm, Red Steel's a fairly good game.

The thing that's sad, the sword fighting in WarioWare: Smooth Moves is better than the sword fighting in this game. Could've used improving. I'm not saying Red Steel isn't a good game, though.
