The best way to do it would be to retell the story of, I dunno, Metroid 1, but in much more detail. The only problem would be that the pirates would need more development, clearer motives, more personality.

And the chozo would have to have a real solid connection to the metroids, or they would clutter up the movie. Something like they made the metroids long ago in the past or whatever.

I cannot see why anyone is excited about this. I've seen several game-movies and no one was good; most were even not like the game at all.

This could be good like Resident Evil(which was friggin awsome) or it could be just as bad as that Final Fantasy movie.

Doing well and being a good movie are two very different things.

^I know. And all of the movies I listed under that classification performed well at the box office. (As you can see, Tomb Raider and Resident Evil did well enough to merit sequels.)

I also remember a Double Dragon movie that came out a long time ago when the series was popular. I don't know how well it did, but let's face it. It probably bombed.

I liked the Mario movie.

It was a good movie, but it wasn't a good Mario movie.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, trust the fungus."

All I think is that they had better follow the metroid series VERY closely. *Person whispers* They're making a movie? *Falls unconscious*

The Mario movie didn't fall too close to the games, but it was still good. ^^ The widdle Bob-omb was so cute....

btw, Nitendo.com is doing a poll "If you were casting a Metroid movie, who would be Samus Aram?"
I think this is the proof that it is being done. Unless they got spies here reading our minds, which I doubt.

You guys are all pretty negative on this...

My most important thing to say is that whether you feel this is a good or bad thing, you can't say that it will be bad because other video game movies were bad. Didn't anyone ever tell you not to judge a book by its cover? For the past 30 some years movies based on comic books were terrible, yet how many people here enjoyed Spider-Man the movie?

Instead, you must look at each case individually! One person commented that it's niche... What? It's Sci-Fi, it has action, I don't think you can get much more mainstream. Maybe you're under the impression that a Metroid movie would only go for fans of the series, now tha'ts really wrong thinking. Interesting cynergy occurs when you make a movie based off of something in pop culture (or underground pop culture). You immediately have an audience with the fans, but the real moneymaker is the people you're introducing it to. People will say "Hey, a cool action Science Fiction movie." Of course they're bound to hear about the games they're based off of, so they say "Hmm, maybe I will check the games out." Cynergy man.

Follow the plot closely? Stay true to the series? Not introduce more human characters? Sorry folks, but this ain't Tolkein, this isn't even Legend of Zelda. As great a fan someone may be of the Metroid series, the story isn't wonderful material in itself. None of you understand that Metroid is an excellent choice for a series because A) It is well established. B) It does have a rather cool basic story and scenario. C) As nifty as the story is, it can be played around with ALOT.

I can summarize the whole Metroid series pretty easily, as compared just trying to describe LttP and OoT together.
You guys will be eating your words if a Metroid movie comes out. Yes it has the potential to bomb, every 'smash' does. But it has as much potential now as any Marvel comics character.

PS.
'Can't see Sigourney Weaver as Samus'... morons. A joke was made (I hope so much that it was a joke) that the star of the Alien series, Ms. Weaver, would play Samus--> Because their 'characters' are so similar. Anyone with brains knows that doing that would be too cheesy.

PPS
I remember other characters (including a few human) in the Nintendo Power comics of Super Metroid. And hell no Samus wouldn't take orders through the whole movie. Any good scriptwriter could see that if they were to introduce government authority at all in the film, the way to go would be for Samus to be a badass and give them a hard time (she is a bounty hunter you know, besides she ditched them to go solo!).
