As we told you about yesterday, Nintendo has issued a formal apology in Japan regarding the scarcity of GameBoy Advance SP systems. In an effort to resolve the problem, Nintendo plans to boost hardware production and switch shipping methods from sea cargo to air delivery. Today, sources close to the company shed new light on the production situation. Reportedly, Nintendo plans to increase monthly GameBoy Advance SP production from 300,000 to 500,000 units over a two-month transitional period. By April, Nintendo hopes to have manufacturing facilities in China meet the production goal of 500,000 units per month. More intriguing however is the breakdown of production. Silver colored units will be manufactured in higher quantities than black or blue due to initial sales figures and retail feedback. Based on the current demand for the GameBoy Advance SP, Nintendo projects domestic [Japan only] sales of the unit at approximately 3.5 million units this year.

It's awesome that it's doing so good. I had my doubts at first, whether it would be a succes.

Of course, this is Japan, so it'll probably sell less in the US and Europe.

not wanting to stereotype, but revamped consoles have always sold excellently in Europe (We must just be more stylish ) Also given that the mobile commincations is strongest in Europe (GBAsp is target at mobile phone freaks, afterall), it should do brilliently here if (And it's a big if), NoE don't screw up...
