If you go to any Nintendo message board, it is running rampant with E3 speculation based on if or when Nintendo will go online. The president of Nintendo , as well as famed game developer, Miyamoto, have both been vocal that Nintendo has no interest in online gaming, as it is not very profitable at the moment. Yet they fans still hoped.

Today, Computer and Video games, posted news regarding an exclusive interview with Shelly Friend, PR Manager for Nintendo of Europe. In the interview Shelly Friend confirmed Nintendo's stance on online gaming quoting, "Online is what everyone is currently focusing on, but that does not necessarily mean that it is here and now. The fact that all these games can be playable online doesn't mean people will be. It's a nice, sexy thing to talk about but I think the reality is a little way off. "

Furthermore, when asked point blank, "Will there be any first-party online titles at E3?", She answered with a sharp "No".

This shouldn't come as a surprise to any Nintendo fans out there as Nintendo's highest held employees have told us time and time again that they are simply not interested in online gaming, but we're sure people will be shocked with the recent interview.

Oh, it might not be a huge deal. Maybe they should build internet access directly into the "Gamesphere." And memory cards should be able to have small easy-to-program games run off them. And you should be able to plug a 3D goggle headset into the system. And a DVD player. And blue-laser DVDs.

Still, online Animal Crossing would have been nice.

I won't buy the next Mario Kart if it isn't online...

OK, so I probably will anyway. Curse Nintendo and it's iron grip on my wallet!

Online gaming... Not profitable? Hilarious.

Whether they like it or not, Nintendo seriously needs more than one online title in their lineup.

If anybody wants me, I'll be over here sucking bullets out of the barrel of my gun.

Gad, Animal Crossing 2 HAS to be Online.

Man, the day Nintendo does announce online plans, the world is gonna shake.

Huges Sega

Well, looks like I'm going to have to keep with Yugi Naka for my online fix.

In the last week, I've shelled out nearly £150 ($220) on Phantasy Star: Game, Modem, keyboard, Subscription, Sega's DreamArena ISP, GBA-GC link, Phantasy Star Collection, another memory card...

Not profitable? Ha.

I think Nintendo could miss out here: Even if not for profit, their dismissing a technology that could be used for real innovation (How many time have you wanted to play multiplayer, but had no mates around?)

Still, Microsoft and Sega seem comitted to the online ralley...

Wait a sec... GamerFeed? If this was an actual news story, wouldn't it be on most of the major news sites? I have a hard time buying this, especially when Pikmin 2 has already been hinted at as online compatible.

I've found GamerFeed to be somewhat...unreliable...in the past too. For what it's worth I haven't heard anything like that through other sources, and none of the big dogs like IGN have posted it either. Hmmm...

Then again, it seems pretty reasonable given Nintendo's "we hate online and want you to suffer" stance.

I have the same problem X.X

Although the modems are out for nintendo, they obviously aren't utilizing online play. But they hinted at while online play just isn't for them right now, it will be in the future.

My guess is the next system will take full control of (and to all of our hopes, dominate) online play.

But as of now and E3? Ninty ain't havin it.
