| Guest | Well today is a special day for us European Nintendoids, it was one year since we got Gamecube. I´ve been celebrating by playing all my GCN games at the same day. And now i´m going to do something I sure will get a lot of critic for: Write the story of my year with Gamecube. Okay I´ll start a (not so) long time ago. Chapter 1: From Dolphin to Gamecube. I remember when i read in a Swedish v-game newspaper called Super Play that Nintendo had announced a new console they were developing with the help of IBM. It was called Dolphin and the N64 were still young. Months went and I read in the same magazine that it had changed name to Starcube and not so long after that: Gamecube. But I still played my N64, deciding to not care too much about the new stuff until it came out. Chapter 2: Getting to know the games. Out on the Internet i saw things I just could dream about, a Luigi game (sadly enough about ghosts, which made me decide not to buy it) and not so long after that: a sequel to Super Smash Bros.. And looking at the pictures: "Oh, new characters: Bowser! Peach! Sheik! Those eskimoes from that NES game! No Luigi, and WHERE´S JIGGLYPUFF!" It just made me go crazy to get it. It was the 25:th of may, 2001. By the way, I thought that SSBM would have a Game & Watch character before Mr. G&W were announced. Chapter 3: Learning more. Well, I heard lots about some other games and SSBM that summer. Lets go on to the next chapter. Chapter 4: You lucky guys. I knew that Gamecube had been released in Japan but had no idea of when you Americans or us Europeans were going to get it. Now I knew pretty much about SSBM and other GCN games. Now christmas was also coming, and I wanted to get a Game Boy Advance so very very much (and I got it). But still no sign of PAL Gamecube. Then one day in december, i went to some site, and there it were: the realease date for the American Gamecube. I picked up the phone, dialled the number to my cousin and yelled: "THE AMERICANS GOT GAMECUBE YESTERDAY"! Chapter 5: I went crazy. Now I was really jealous. And just thought: Why, why ,why? Even though you didn´t, it felt like you were boasting about it. And I went to the Internet a lot of times to try and find a European G-date. With no success. Until the third of february 2002. When I checked the Swedish Nintendo-homepage. And now I went more crazy, since the PAL version wouldn´t be realeased until the third of may. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH! Chapter 6: The long wait. Those three months were boring. And after that, it would take three more weeks until SSBM. I put up a calendar on my wall and crossed over every day until the 24:th of may. It felt a little faster that way. But there was some problems, Super Smash Bros. Melee wasn´t going to be released at the same time as Gamecube, and I had decided not to buy Luigi´s Mansion, so the question was: what game were I going to get, since I didn´t want to buy GCN later. And the other problem was: What money should I use. I decide to buy Tony Hawk´s Pro Skater 3 after playing the PC-version at a friends house. And I borrowed 3000 kronor (around 350 $) from my father. Chapter 7: Finally. The day came and I bought a purple Gamecube with THPS3 and a 59 block Memory Card. It was a happy time for me and i played and played and played. Later I decided to buy Luigi´s Mansion after reading about it in Nintendo Official Magazine. Which put some more money on the money i owe my dad. And with two games, I was (still) very happy. And soon, SSBM was going to be released. Chapter 8: The first game I ever sold. After SSBM was released, I had neither any money to buy it or permission to borrow more money. After getting really talked to, I (hold me) .............sold Luigi´s Mansion. I sent it to my mom living in Stockholm, she sold it and gave me the money. Then I bought SSBM and played happy but sad. Soon came a big trouble, I still owe my dad money. Chapter 9: DAAAAAAAAAAAAAD! Every summer my dad gives me no permission to play v-games, and this summer was no exception, only the fact that I had to pay back my dad before I would be allowed to play GCN. Then after the summer I still hadn´t paid and could only play my other games. You should only know how much I missed my GCN. Chapter 10: X-Mas wishes. That christmas I wanted Super Mario Sunshine and permission to play my GCN which I got. I went very happy and then a few days later: bough a new controller for my x-mas money. Chapter 11: Moment of happiness. I have my birthday on the 31:st of december, and I had no idea of what I would get. What I got? It´s like this, my mother never sold Luigi´s Mansion, she hid it and gave me the money just like that, and I got LM back. Which made the number of games become four. Chapter 12: This year. This year I bought Mario Party 4 and a new Memory Card (59) and have played just like normal, until today. Well, that was my story. It took time to write and I hope you read it. Thank you for your time. |
