I'd like to know why exactly purchasing a Dreamcast isn't a smart decision given its wealth of high-quality titles such as Soul Calibur, Phantasy Star Online, and Skies of Arcadia.

So basically you're saying that the only "successful" console is the most popular one. By those standards, both the N64 and GCN are failures--but that's a horrible misinterpretation. Obviously the Master System met with some level of success if its maker went on to release one of the most memorable video game consoles of all-time that was also the best-selling until the release of Donkey Kong Country.

The SMS met with marginal success in Japan and Europe (wasn't released in the US), but although it didn't make a dent in the NES's success, it was by no means a complete failure like the Saturn and the myriad of Genesis add-ons.

And I'm with Kaeru. You can't say a system is crap just because it doesn't sell well.

You can play most, if not all, of the Dreamcast's best games on GCN, PS2, or Xbox now.

No, I'm saying that the console that doesn't get ground into the dirt in under two years is successful.

It wasn't any amount of alleged success on the Master System's part that led Sega to launch the Genesis. It was their stubborn "our last system bombed but let's try again anyway" attitude that was prevalent throughout their life. I have to wonder if the Genesis would have enjoyed the degree of success that it had if the SNES had been released first...

That's now. Back then they were Dreamcast-exclusives, making it a very worthy purchase at the time. Obviously buying a Dreamcast at this point would be a bit silly.

Success is subjective. The wealthiest man in the world could buy ever luxery he's ever dreamed of, but he could also be the lonliest man in the world. From that standpoint, I'm much more successful than he'll ever be. With the Dreamcast, you speak of financial success. It could very well be considered a success by many of its owners because of its library of AAA titles. You could also say it was a success for being the first to take the risk of diving into the then unknown world of online gaming, spawning one of the most innovative console titles of our generation--Phantasy Star Online.

I never recalled the Master System bombing. But honestly, I can't say because I never followed the system much. Ask Hobbes.

You tell him Kaeru. And the Master System didn't bomb...for Sega at that time, it was a big success. We can't all have antitrust monopolies.

EDIT: Dreamcast also had AAA..well, for a lack of a better word, "mature" games...something that doesn't fit into MM's demographics. Although I can't say they don't fit into mine. I can come up with more AAA exclusive at the time titles for DC than I can for GC... Funny thing is that the DC had more 3rd party support when it was waning than GC does now.

If a company's history means so much to games, then let's all go buy a Xbox.

Don't be one of the oblivious boneheads who thinks that GCN doesn't have its fair share of mature-themed games. You're too intelligent for that.

This isn't fact and I doubt it'll affect anything, but I think Phantasy Star Online is overrated (of course, I was never able to get the game online, which is probably another reason I'm so angry with it). And Ixa Taka killed my interest for Skies of Arcadia.

Of course, this is coming from the person who thinks everything is overrated.

But I think PSO gets fair credit. It is really good, even offline for me.

Definietly Sonic Adventure 2 Battle! It'll probably change to Sonic Heroes when I buy that, though.

What Curt said and MM never said he hated Sonic Heroes. All he's saying was that he liked SA2B more than Sonic Heroes, which is totally understandable.

As I said before, Sonic Heroes is mediocre at best. The game is flawed, as most reviewers agree. All the teams and levels are the same, and the play control is far from intuitive. I can't count the number of times I've slid off a cliff and into oblivion just because I pressed the B button to attack an enemy. The game has been a serious annoyance to me. I'm at the final boss, but I'm not sure I'll even bother to beat him.
