Actualy these rumors are mixed, and this is hardly official. Sure there are hints everywhere but it stuff like what was posted today that makes us think "what the hell is going on at Rare."

Quote:
In a new press release, Nintendo denies that it is willing to sell it's stake in Rare. Full press release below

Nintendo Co. (J.NTD or 7974) Thursday denied a U.S. media report it is "willing to sell" a controlling stake in U.K. game software developer Rare Ltd.
There has been speculation about Microsoft Corp.'s interest in buying Rare to make more software exclusively for its Xbox console. A Nintendo spokesman said, hypothetically, the company would consider what to do with its Rare shareholding if actually contacted by Microsoft or Rare, but there hasn't been any such contact.

Nintendo owned 38% of Rare's voting rights through U.S. subsidiaries at the end of last March, but Rare hasn't supplied any software for Nintendo's GameCube or Game Boy consoles over the past one year or so, the spokesman said.
The Los Angels Times said in a separate report Microsoft is interested in acquiring Rare, citing unnamed sources.
On the Tokyo Stock Exchange Thursday, Nintendo shares ended up 2.6% at Y14,380 Thursday. The Nikkei 225 Stock Average closed up 0.2% at 9415.23.
From www.cube-Europe.com and Yahoo and many other sites shooting down the day befores rumor.

Needless to say this is a dim moment, I have absolutely no clue whats going on. one day Rare's Microsofts new power toy the next they never where sold! WTF

Actually the only thing that has gotten mixed up is if Nintendo sold or not. Like Shane said, even if Nintendo doesn't sell, Microsoft will scoop up the last 51-61% of stocks. That means they will control the choices of Rare.

BTW, Rarenet.com just posted some Rare employee reactions to Rare going to Microsoft:

Quote:
What does Rare have to say? The following are the results of email correspondence and phone calls over the last few days.

"Well, to be honest, you could say I'm pretty bloody put about by the whole damn thing. You know, a few of us knew something was coming for quite a while but still; you learn the ins and outs of a certain system, it's quite technical, and then you suddenly thrust onto a new one, with a half-finished game in your hand. Not my idea of fun, personally."

"Well we're not really supposed to talk about it yet - if ever....but the short of it is that there is an extremely gray area. It's not straight forward yet. Nintendo is trying to keep most of the copyrights. In my opinion that's ****, because we made the games. That's not how it works though. Shame for Diddy and those games though. Won't quite be the same, you know?" "I'd probably get in a bit of trouble around here for saying this but I don't really mind. Sure it'll be a pain in the arse to make the switch, but I've been here for 10 years now. Change is always good. Maybe even for RareNet! ha. ha."

"If bloody Birmingham City can draw Liverpool anything is possible!!"

"From what I have been reading on your site and others, a lot of people seem to think we were obliged to Nintendo and vice versa. Honestly, its fun to read some of the things... dissenters they all yell! It's all business mate, and I can tell you that while a good half of the guys here are a bit upset, just as many look forward to working with the new system. Nothing will change with the quality. I do feel a bit bad for anyone who bought the nintendo box though."

"I'm glad to be out, really. I wish them all the best but I really enjoy programming for the 'cube."

There you have it. We do not claim that these comments are representative of Rare as a whole; they only indicate the thoughts and feelings of the half-dozen employees we happened to speak with. However, it seems that a significant chunk of the company is decidedly miffed, and to be sure, some are leaving the employ of Rare. But just as many are ready to meet the challenges of Xbox development, and endow it with their world-reknown quality.

A petition against X-Box buying Rare would be nice
And then at the end, we could send it to X-Box

Who is to say that those so called Phone calls and E-mails are real. people post crap like that here all the time, I'm sure some ignorant people beleive everything they read. Then spread it somewhere else and before you know it you got another full blown rumor circulating that may or maynot have any truth to it.

I read them, but that doesn't mean that there real. Any ******* can make themselves sound like a pottymouth Brit. All you have to say is bloody and Arse a whole bunch of times. The point is anyone could have made up these notes. These are no more official than the original rumors. We shall find the truth soon.
