Went to the mall with my pal today, and I snagged one. Set-up took longer than I might have liked, but that'll happen.
Some thoughts--
1. 'Wii Sports' is lame. So is most of 'Wii Play', with the exception of the tank game, which I've spent way too much time on.
2. The aforementioned Mario games still rule.
3. It's annoying not to be able to do other things while downloading crap, the way you can on the 360 and PS3.
4. Yes, I downloaded 'Sin and Punishment', Wy. It's as good as I expected it would be.
5. I haven't used the wrist-strap at all, because I'm a cool rebel.

Oh, and I saw 'Beowulf'. It was all right.

Huzzah.

Yeah, Sin and Punishment is aces. Probably the best-looking, most ridiculous N64 game in history. And hard, until you learn to play well.

I just got to play a Nintendo Wii yesterday at Gamestop. It's awesome. I might be able to get one in a couple months.

I'm still holding out for after the holidays to buy a Wii. I plan to nab one around the time Brawl comes out - possibly earlier, seeing as Brawl coming out could mean a ton more people like me trying to do what I'm doing - and see if I can find one of those Nintendo USB Wi-Fi adaptors for the Wii. The site says it has discontinued them, though, which doesn't bode well. I may have to get one now.

Looking at reviews of them, though, there seems to be a split between people loving them and people hating them. Any opinions?

( If you have a wireless internet network, you don't need to buy an adapter.)

^ I would buy it if you like Nintendo games. It's not getting much support from anywhere else.

The games I own for Wii are spread about 50-50 between Nintendo and 3rd Party, though that will change after Christmas.

And Scripture, whenever you can get a Wii, I suggest you buy it there and then, you can't guarantee a Wii being available to you at a certain time right now, based on the European situation which is pretty much the same as this time last year. Many people will be left disappointed.

That quote's in response to someone suggesting the Wii has a greater range of content than does the 360. I can't see as my buying a Wii makes that statement any less stupid.

That's not what "range of appeal" means. It means it appeals to more people.

^Bah. Time was, range of appeal and range of content were two sides of the same coin. Trust gamers to louse that up any time Nintendo introduces a 'ground-breaking' (read: gimmicky and often ill-suited) control scheme.

Go to bed old man!

'An idea too delicious to believe in'? Are you off your head, or merely off your meds? I ask because motion-sensitive controls are about as fresh, innovative, and current as that cute 'Dana Gould, circa 1990' impression you're trying your hand at. (Honestly, why stop there? Couldn't find your Diceman cassettes?)

Pretending you invested in the motion controls is ridiculous; I mean to say you invested in the Wii.

Bah. You don't half go all serious just when a thread's actually starting to get entertaining.

I concentrated on the motion-sensing in specific because the idea of being a fan of a console is patently ridiculous to me. As well say you're a fan of one particular toaster.

Well yeah. That's why I said you bought into the Wii as an idea, or at the least as a platform for playing games. I mean, I know you got you some of that Galaxy.

...right?

And I was two years old for over 90% of 1990, grampa.

I don't understand what you mean by 'buying into the Wii as an idea'.

Eh, the second art of that sentence is more important. When you purchase a system without being tied ot the brand name (o horror!) you're essentially buying it as a platform for playing games, meaning you believe it will have games that makes it worth owning. The Wii as an idea is essentially what coalesces into the experience you have when you play it - like being able to play Sin and Punishment for the first time. That's the idea of the Virtual Console given delightful life.

And who the hell is Diceman?

Andrew 'Dice' Clay. Easily one of the worst things ever to happen to stand-up comedy. Imagine Dom Irrerra, except swearier, dumber and lacking any talent. Sort of the late eighties New Yorker equivalent to Carlos Mencia. Avoid at all costs.

He also stared in an ill-fated Vh1 comeback show that was pulled before it could crash to its uneventful end, I believe.
