I think it can't go without being unsaid that David Wise is a total freakin' genius when it comes to the music. I'd say he's in the top 3 best music composers for video games ever overall.

I would call DKR a Donkey Kong game, but only as a spin-off, since Diddy Kong is the only DK character present (with the possible exception of Krunch).

I dunno, I would place Luigi's Mansion in the Mario franchise. The rest of the ones you listed were merely cameos, or in DKR's case, a spinoff.

But yeah, I think DKR is a game in its own right. I wouldn't classify that in the DK franchise, but as a spin-off.

Just keep at it. It gets easier once you beat it the first time, because you know what to do.

Luigi's Mansion could be considered a Mario game for its obviously close ties. I never really had any desire to play it, though. If anyone thinks I'm being particularily strict in how I view a game to be a part of a series, I'll remind you that there are plenty of people that will claim the Super Mario Land games aren't "REAL" Mario games. Now, those people are crazy, but it serves the purpose of comparison.

For that matter, I really wish they'd kept making Super Mario Land games, and not just Wario games.
