I picked it up again yesterday, where I was at Really Gnawty's Rampage, and I just now beat K. Rool. It wasn't nearly as difficult as I remembered, but it was every bit as fun. The latter levels have some very inventive designs (the re-fueling platform comes to mind). I think I know why I gave up on this game so long ago: the save system. Not so much the system, really, as the location of the save spots. There would never be a save at the beginning of a world (collection of levels), and you would always have to play through at least 3 levels before you could find one. This would mean that players had to fight end-world bosses before beginning a new world every time they couldn't get far enough in the world to save. Fortunately, I found a way around fighting the boss every time. Beating a boss will put you on the DK Island map. From there, do NOT continue to the new world, but instead go back to the last one. Save there, go to Funky's Flights, and fly to the new world. You can do this if you die on the way to the next save. Granted, you still need to survive the first 3 or more levels of a world before you can save again. If you find a Funky's Flights before a Save point, however, you can use the strategy above to save somewhere else and return later; however, it'll still be at least 3 levels before even that option arises. I'm glad to see that this annoyance was alleviated in DCK 2, which I just got for Virtual Console and am now beginning. It was much more of a pain than it should have been in the first game, especially to younger gamers. The games are still incredibly fun, and boast some incredible graphics, music, and level designs to boot. But man was DCK ever frustrating to me when I was 6! |

It's a pretty generic, funky tune(Hence the guys name), with a small side of the cool instrumental mixed with techno Nintendo-Rare games are known for, as well as a cool HIYA!! added before it starts up again. A cool touch with the hiya is that once, it, ends with an "oomph" sound effect, and after the thechno instrumentals, along with a high pitched, loud "Whoo!" stuck in there. The song ends with HI-HI-HI-YA!! at the end. Then it starts over. Great music, those DKC games. I prefer them to DK64. |

Some personal favorites include Industrial Fear (Fear Factory) by bLiNd, and BramblesInTheBreeze (Stickerbush Symphony) by Protricity. |

Thus far; maybe there are other such awesome pieces later on. At any rate, the DKC2 soundtrack is BEAUTIFUL. It's a FLIPPIN SHAME the mine theme isn't on the official soundtrack... |

(starts @ 1:32) In case you don't know, you needed 50 coins in order to get the banana. SO EFFING FRUSTRATING! This guy makes it look easy, and even HE almost loses at the end! | ||

Well, it was much easier than I recall. *rubs in faaaace*Also, I'd forgotten how much I hate Krazy Kremland. |

| Senior Member | Just downloaded the first. Good game, but that mine cart level is a pain in the ass. I almost beat it once, but I JUST ran into a Kremling. And I only had Diddy left at that point. I was pissed. But still, it's a very good game. Last edited by X-3; 01-16-2008 at 07:24 PM. |

Gender: Posts: 4,025 Thanks: 88 Thanked 70 Times in 34 Posts | I have a friend whose older brother got so pissed off playing the mine cart level that he tore the game out of the SNES and chucked it across the room. My friend was, unfortunately, walking in just then and wound up with a face full of cartridge. He was only like 7 or 8 at the time, and he started bawling. His brother rushed over to him, in shock at what he'd done, and tried to calm him down, but to no avail. Their dad came home right at this moment, and my friend's brother, knowing he was in for it, got pissed and yelled, "GRIFFIN, STOP CRYING!" I'm not sure how it all turned out after that, but I love that story. |

| Senior Member | ^^Hah, thankfully that'll never happen to me. *Plays mine cart level, loses, and then throws Wii Remote at sister* I have eaten my words. D: Gnawty was a pretty gnarly(lol?)battle. Sure, you just had to jump, but it was FUN. |

Seriously, going back to DKC 1 after playing 2, the bosses seem absolutely primitive (save for maybe K. Rool). |

The last few levels were a bitch, but now all I've left to do is beat the Lost World and get the last DK tokens. As a side note, it's easy to miss a lot of the game's humor, especially from Cranky Kong. When he said he was going to go play Killer Instinct I lol'd. |

Could that be because it was one of the first games I ever played for any system? Maybe. Could it be because of the music? Possibly. In fact, I'm listening to Gang-Plank Galleon right now. Is it the sheer fun, level design, and challenge, combined with the incredible graphics and sound? Yeah, that's it. It took me 13 years to complete it, but I enjoyed every second of it. I also downloaded Diddy's Kong Quest on Virtual Console and enjoyed it as well (If you think it's hard already, try playing it with a GameCube controller. Oy.) DKC3 was all right, but I could never get into DK64, I may have to play it again. And Nintendo really needs to make another DK platformer soon. |
