Or, you know, LttP.

^Yes. It's stupidly listed under 'T' instead of 'L', but it is there. (Apparently the initial 'the' is crucial enough to the title that they have to go by that when alphabetising.)

^Most would probably recommend LoZ over AoL for a more traditional Zelda experience. Not that AoL is bad, of course--just different.

It's true. As much as I adore AoL (see avatar), if you really want a classic Zelda game, go with either LttP or LoZ.

Plus, if you download LoZ, you'll get to see where all my awesome avatars have come from. Tell me that isn't the deal of the century.

[EDIT: Just realised I never actually contributed to the topic.

I don't know which game was the most effective translation. I liked 'SM64' the most out of the three, but I guess that isn't really what the question is asking...

You know, I think 'SM64' is probably it. Kept things fairly consistent with the originals and the intermediate games in the series--like that. 'Prime' was a major change from the originals (say what you like, but I would almost have preferred a 3rd-person shooter-platformer to an FPS--sort of 'Ratchet and Clank', without the laughs). As for 'OoT'...yeah. I won't say it's a bad game, but most of my gripes with it had to do with the translation to 3D (aka Z-targeting and general ease).]

I thought it was "A Link to the Past." Hmm.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Boo, I'm throwing down the guantlet.

What exactly do you have against Z-Targeting? If Link were a real person, he would focus on one enemy and attack it--he wouldn't just run into a battle swinging his sword like an idiot.

Plus, you love Wind Waker, which also had Z-Targeting. Explain, sire.

You know, after thinking it over, I don't really have anything against Z-targeting (well, aside from automatic perfect accuracy with missile weapons, but that's just a nitpick). After having played a few games that both feature some such targeting/auto-face system and remain harder than nails ('Just Cause' and the 'Call of Duty' games spring to mind), I'm going to go ahead and just say that OoT was extremely, extremely easy. Very little challenging combat; I'm not some kind of psycho, and I see the value in curving the difficulty for new players, but they were wrong to make the enemies such sisters when it came to dealing damage. Seriously, some boss-monster the size of a house lamps Link one, you'd expect he'd lose a fat chunk of his life, not some dinky half-heart. Hell, back in the LoZ days, they weren't shy about throwing a group of Blue Lynels at you just in the overworld, nevermind the dungeons at all.

WW, enemy damage is still a little nerfed, but at least you get some pitched battles--Link against a few Darknuts isn't anything to sneeze at. Not to mention, I liked running up against actual jerk enemies in the overworld. Like those helicopter-whale jobbers who ram you again just as you're getting back into your boat. Yeah, annoying, but you take challenge where you get it.

I guess I can understand that. I agree, the overworld was pretty pathetic, but I love OoT's story and dungeons a lot. Whether or not that's carry-over from childhood I can't say, but either way, I love the game.

I appreciate OoT more now than I did when I was younger. To say it sucks based solely on difficulty is unjust; for all that it was an easy game, it was also a very polished and well-made one. I probably just wasn't the target audience, is all.
